Enjoyed our stay - Private room with shower

Decent accommodation at this hostel, room was clean, multiple kitchens so always one which is available to use
We had the private room with a shower, water pressure was great, air con was a life saver, worked really well and the staff were very friendly.
Pool is a bit smaller than it looks online, but overall this was a good hostel and location was ideal, 10 min walk to shopping mall, 15 minute walk to the strip and water front

The internet worked well. The kitchen was somewhat equipped, some things were missing or broken and the fridge was completely full with old residents food so there was barely any room to put anything. The place was fine and mostly clean until people are gross and shave their beard over the sink and leave hair everywhere, don’t be that person. My recommendation if you plan to cook is to buy a sponge, containers, and an all purpose seasoning. The only seasonings in the kitchen were seasonings people left behind, salt, and vegetable oil

Great quiet space

This is the perfect place for people that are looking for quieter, smaller spaces without big crowds. Has a small kitchen with basic necessities and a laundry space (drying racks available). The person who runs the place is always on site, which is a plus!

Absolutely unacceptable

Our booking got cancelled on the day while we were mid flight and the staff member was extremely rude and argued with us about the cancellation. The staff member blamed it on us and booking.com when the fault lied with them completely. Never returning.

Look elsewhere if you can.

Really a last resort. Facilities are filthy and maintained at such a low standard. None of the bathrooms are clean, hardly ever any toilet paper. No space in ANY of the fridges in all 3 kitchens, and extremely unreliable WiFi that was only available for half a day. I wish I had something nice to say but I truly don't understand why this place is even still running. If you can afford to and if there is any other place in Cairns to stay, go there instead of City Backpackers. Really disappointing:(
