Hidden Gem of Tassie

Everything is awesome, Staff and owners make this place great, the cabins are so welcoming, clean, practical and warm. Beds great, location location is bliss. This is an awesome place for tourists and locals alike. Seeking a quick get away from the big smoke Hobart, then this IS IT. Cosy Fire, Spa, treated like royalty, and the Derwent Bridge Hotel to feed ya ✔️ ✔️ ✔️

A very pleasant overnight stay. Very well equipped, you could cook if you wanted but we headed down to the pub which was excellent value.Everything you needed was in the accomodation, would highly recommend.

Beware the hidden costs.

While our cabin was comfortable I cannot get past the terrible experience after we left. On arrival I had to fill in a piece of paper with all my details including credit card number which I had already provided when booking. This made me feel very uncomfortable but owner insisted. We were told that the fire wasn’t working and not to turn off the heaters. They however were in the bedrooms and were very warm. My daughter was so hot she changed beds and for that we were charged an extra $50 a night. This is downright extortion. Beware the grumpy owner who seems to look for ways to get more money out of you. Never again will we be staying here.

Don’t be put off by the rustic exterior and surrounds. The chalet interior is cosy, well-appointed and spacious with wood panelling on the walls and lovely matching blinds and curtains. The bed was comfortable with a handmade doona (bed spread). The bathroom was spotless and has been recently renovated. The chalets and studios are in a very convenient location - short walk to the local hotel which serves great meals and a short drive away from the visitor centre at Lake St Clair National Park.

Unpleasant Experience

This review pertains only to the service level as we didn't get to stay in our booked accommodation. My partner and I booked a room to break up the drive from Hobart to Strahan. I had paid a 50% deposit by credit card and on arrival, we were required to complete, on a loose piece of paper, all of the personal details we'd already provided, including my full credit card details. Having suffered credit card fraud previously, I'm sensitive to the treatment of my confidential information. I completed the name, address and contact information only. I offered to pay the balance of the room charge plus $100 security, but this was refused. I offered to pay $100 cash as security, but this too was refused. The woman at Reception (Louise?) had become quite terse during this conversation and when it became apparent that we weren't finding a way forward, I said that we seem to have a problem. She said "No, you have the problem because you won't have any accommodation tonight". She may as well have just told me to "F... off". Instead of trying to find a solution or be even slightly accommodating, she just offered a refund of the deposit, which I took, and we left. I have never experienced such a hostile reception from anyone in business, let alone the hospitality business. I was able to arrange accommodation in Strahan, and so we just carried on driving to Strahan. We enjoyed many wonderful experiences during our time in Tasmania. This was the most memorable, but for all the wrong reasons. I see numerous negative reviews and one which likens the experience to Fawlty Towers. I couldn't agree more. If you do stay there, and have a terrible experience, at least you have been warned.
