Absolutely perfect

My only regret about this place is that my daughter and I couldn’t stay longer! Cozy, welcoming, comfortable, well situated. We arrived after a day of abseiling. Flawless email communication before arrival made it easy to get in and settled. I asked the host a question on WhatsApp and she immediately came to check on us and make sure we had everything we needed. I slept so well, woke up before my daughter and used the common kitchen to make breakfast. Ate in the sitting area by a warm fire, then took my book to stretch out and read in the library. So lovely! Don’t hesitate to book a room here.

Super cozy and homey stay

Absolutely awesome place to stay the room was very clean and tidy and the bed was very comfy. Also Annette is awesome and super knowledgeable about the area. Cozy rooms and lots to do in the house, with a really good library and kitchen. Very highly recommend.

Super homely hostel in the perfect location

Stayed in the gorgeous private bedrooms (with shared bathroom) which were super comfy and provided towels. Very good value for money with great kitchen facilities, lots of places to lounge around and many blue mountain walk/hiking books which were extremely useful.

Delightful place to stay and excellent value

No 14 is a simply delightful place to stay. It’s perfect for solo travellers who would like convivial company as well as the privacy of their own room. The house is extremely comfortable with a very pleasant outside seating area. The owners have put a lot of thought into organising the kitchen etc and got struck a good balance between communicating what the arrangements are without over complicating it. Excellent location - it is within walking distance of the station. Very good value

Unacceptable

Never in my life have a been approached in this manner by a business owner as a customer. The hostel itself was lovely, but the way we were treated was unacceptable and all due to a miss understanding regarding the booking. No matter the incident, this approach was completely unprofessional and uncalled for. Being cast out on the street near midnight due to a misunderstanding caused by a phone booking was not at all what I expected. Furthermore, no sort of resolution to where we could stay for the night was initiated by staff. The hostel owner attacked my friends character, called names and acted childish, to the point where we as customers just wanted to leave the unsettling environment.
Truly disappointing.

As with your friend and your attack on Google, it's unfortunate and I can do nothing about being the villian in your story. However, let's get two flat out lies corrected: (1) It was before 10pm. (2) I asked and started to look on my phone for accommodation for you to move to for the second bed that was not booked. You personally then said that there's a train. Alex said you'd go home and you went to get the train. I could have used my contacts to find a late check in, and if it had been my fault I'd have booked you both into any hotel at my own expense. But it wasn't my fault, and you said you were getting the train home. Here's a cut and paste of Alex's reply to cover the rest...
I hate these situations. But over the thousands of guests we have each year, over several years now, I'm happy to say that there are a handful of people who have this kind of interaction. They have all crossed that line of entitled, rude or aggressive behaviour in some way. While I hate it, truly, I stand by our zero tolerance for entitled, rude or aggressive behaviour. I will go above and beyond for our guests - until they cross that line. Your version is yours and doesn’t include any detail that doesn’t fit your anger to give balance. I won’t fuel this anymore and I can do nothing else about being the villain in your story. I’ll continue to work hard every day with our team to continue to attract the right customers and delight them.
