sebel malvern? Give it a miss. underwhelming. overpriced. takes 15 minutes to get an elevator.
Well I won’t be staying here again.
The 2 lifts for the entire building are woefully slow in part due to the ~289 apartments (~600 residents) in this building – 17 storeys of pyjama clad international students that presumably attend the nearby Monash uni campus.
I was advised by reception that the reason I didn’t get housekeeping during my 5 night stay was “they forgot to put your apartment on the housekeeping list”. Yep, at $270 a night I find it acceptable for the disinterested staff to forget to do their job.
You know those tiny pillows you get in economy class long haul flights? Yep, my bed has 4 of these things – barely larger than a shoebox, as thin as a pair of socks and about as comfortable under your ear when you are trying to sleep. I eventually took the loungeroom cushions to bed to use as a pillow.
I see that there is a single airconditioning outlet in the lounge – if its summer and you need airconditioning in either of the bedrooms then you are not going to be a happy camper. I guess that goes for heating as well, but the rooms are well insulated and the shoebox with the double bed in it doesn’t have any windows that open, so it just doesn’t get cold enough to need heating in there.
Keep that in mind when you stare at the big windows facing the western sun when you look at the glossy pictures on their website.
This is just a cheaply made, tiny apartment aimed at international students that is being managed by sebel instead of some online app.
Next time I’ll stay at chadstone for the same money and at least I will have a room worth sleeping in.
