Property was a brilliant location and staff were incredibley helpful! Room size was okay and the toilet / shower was a nice big size! There is no lift at the property just as a FYI.

Disappointing stay and equally disappointing customer service

**Disappointing stay and equally disappointing customer service**
I stayed one night in an Executive Room at Kirketon Hotel Sydney and unfortunately the experience did not live up to either the room description or the price paid ($249 AUD).
The room itself felt small and poorly ventilated. The windows were sealed shut and the air-conditioning vents appeared heavily dusty. After turning the air-conditioning on my allergies flared up, which made it difficult to relax or sleep comfortably.
The bathroom was particularly disappointing. The shower grout showed significant dark staining that appeared to be mould, the sink basin had a visible chip, and the shelf above the basin protrudes so far that I actually hit my head while washing my face the following morning. The shower also used separate hot and cold taps and it was almost impossible to maintain a comfortable water temperature, constantly changing between very hot and very cold.
The bedding was uncomfortable and, combined with the stale air, resulted in one of the poorest night's sleep I've had in a hotel.
The minibar fridge was almost completely filled with hotel items, leaving very little room for guests to store their own food or drinks.
The listing also advertises "rainfall showers in stylish bathrooms", which did not reflect the bathroom in the room we were provided.
The most disappointing part of the experience, however, was how my complaint was handled. I contacted the hotel directly after my stay and received no response. It was only after I lodged a complaint with NSW Fair Trading that the hotel eventually replied more than two months later. After I responded to their email, communication ceased again and the matter ultimately remained unresolved.
I understand that older boutique hotels have character and won't be perfect, but cleanliness, maintenance and responsive customer service should still meet a reasonable standard. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
I hope this review helps future guests make an informed decision before booking.

Mixed Stay — Great Location, But Several Drawbacks

No elevator, which can be challenging with heavy luggage as rooms are accessed by stairs. We had to leave our bags in storage overnight and get assistance later, as there is no porter service and reception opens from 8am.
Room was smaller than expected. No safe, and power points were awkwardly placed — some hidden behind the vanity table. The phone didn’t work, and there were broken tiles in the bathroom. The bathroom window and AC grills had visible dust, and there was noticeable dust in the room, which caused me to sneeze frequently. The bed was uncomfortable and the sheet didn't fit properly on a queen sized bed.
The bar fridge was faulty and defrosting, with water pooling at the bottom. This was reported but not fixed.
Walls are thin and we could hear nearby rooms, although it was surprisingly quiet at night, even over the weekend.
No room service. Café next door closes at 3pm, and breakfast is extra with a voucher from reception. On the plus side, there are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance, which was convenient.
Staff were friendly. Overall, an average stay with some maintenance and convenience issues, but manageable for a short visit.

I have stayed at the Kirketon several times. Got room 334 this time and it was by far the best and most spacious. The hotel is great value, just what I needed for a short work trip. The airport shuttle for $25 which you can book at reception is excellent value and saved me the angst of booking an Uber at 6am and hoping it would be on time.
