Desert Gardens

Good place to rest up whilst visiting Uluru. The room (I think we were in 318) was a bit basic but comfortable and clean and we had no noise from neighbouring guests so that was ideal! Staff at check-in were polite and friendly however there was a slight mix-up with some of the extras we had booked but this was quickly resolved. We also couldn't get WIFI in our room - as soon as you stepped outside it would kick in so slightly annoying.
Breakfast was always busy - plenty of choice and good quality food however, be prepared to queue quite some time for the coffee machine!
It gets busy around the pool in the afternoons but the pool area is kept clean and is well maintained.
The area itself has everything you need and all of the trips are very well organised.
All in all, a pleasant stay and we would definitely return.

Very disappointing for the price tag

The hotel is beyond expensive for what it provides. Our room was very basic and really filthy. The tiles in the entrance of the room and in the bathroom were sticky and dirty, the rest of the room had a colorful carpet, I don’t think it was ever cleaned. The toilet had brown and permanent stains inside, the walls and surfaces had stains and visible marks. The sliding glass door leading to the balcony was also very dirty and stained. The balcony dirty as well, equipped with stained and sticky plastic chairs. I asked for the room to be cleaned again but it didn’t change anything. I do understand that this is the desert and sand is basically everywhere BUT a room would not look like that if cleaned efficiently on a day to day basis, also the stains were not due to sand but a lack of thorough cleaning. This is also true for the rest of the property since pathways are not swept daily. Everything looks more like a youth hostel and less like a resort for 600 AUD per night.
Other than that the food for lunch and dinner were good but breakfast is also very basic and heavy on the processed carbohydrates. I would recommend the cafe at the town square instead or the supermarket instead.
On the positive side: staff is very nice, tours run smoothly and I can recommend the camel tours. I personally would not recommend more than two nights here and bring slippers for the room since they are not provided. It was by far the most expensive part of our travel through Australia and I would not repeat this destination because of the lack of other, reasonable places to stay.

Desert Gardens served a purpose !

Our family of 6 stayed here for two nights during a vacation to Australia - Despite its basic exterior appearance - the hotel bedrooms are nice, spacious & comfortable. The hotel is basic - but knows how to charge - our meal in the restaurant was very expensive & not at all good. On reflection a 1 night stay here would have been enough - Ayers Rock Uluru is spectacular and I am delighted we have seen it but there is very limited amount of things to do here - limited amenities within the hotel outside of whatever activities you may pre book - we booked the field of lights experience with dinner (expensive but a unique experience) and the biking around Ayers Rock - recommend both but defo in our opinion 1 night here is enough. Staff were a mixed bunch of helpful & friendly v not suited to the industry ! This place served a purpose - we needed somewhere to stay and it ticked that box.

Older style hotel. Outdoor campus style where you walk to your rooms. Have connected rooms for larger families.
Breakfast on site is very expensive.
Grocery store is close and laundry is on-site and free

The best part was the staff. They are very friendly and service minded and we felt very welcome. They will assist you with bookings, questions and more.
We got a room situated far away from the reception which was great as it was very peaceful and quiet.
The room was nice and functional for a family of three. The patio / terrace in front provided extra space and we spent quite some time there enjoying the garden view.
The pool is not heated, which made it too cold for us, but it must be great in the other seasons where the temperatures are higher.
The resort is full of interesting things to do, see and explore and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to visit. We ate several times at the restaurant in the Desert Hotel and it was great value for the money.
To give the hotel 5 stars we would have loved to have had an extra chair in the patio already at arrival, a better guidance on which trips to choose before arrival and that little extra service, that you would expect from a 5 star hotel.
