Good, clean and affordable hostel

Cheap hostel with everything you need. The automatic check-in and out made it very easy and the room was clean with beds prepared for us. The wi-fi was not working and the toilet not functioning completely but OK. The location is good and we had a view of the church from our window.

Not recommended

We unfortunately booked a stay here, as all the good places were booked early due to the F1 event. The checkin is as late as 5pm, and check out is 10.30am, which we were told would be 10am. The room had no towels (we had to ask, and just one set was provided), no toiletries. The bedsheets were old and one of the two beds didn't even have it. There was incredible amount of noise outside at night, for anyone to sleep peacefully. Also in the scorching summer heat, there was no provision made for any fan. Staff was not present through most of the day. No housekeeping support. They also charge a city tax here Also, the rooms are very tiny. Would never recommend this.

WARNING: BED BUGS AT SISHAUS!!

I had the absolute misfortune of staying at Sishaus Hostel aka The Bed Bug Inn. We were a big group and had a total of five rooms. The biggest (room one, the one with two bunk beds and room for six people) had bed bugs and we got bit on our second night. The reaction from the staff was something like ”oh, ok”. No apologies or anything and they didn’t seem surprised by this at all. During that whole day, we were calling and texting them trying to get them to either get us a new room or book us another hostel. They did neither. The only thing they did was offer us to stay in the bed bug room which they had treated with some kind of pesticide, which was ”not toxic, just the smell is uncomfortable” (their words), and offer us a partial refund. When we got back the staff had gone home for the day and no one was answering our calls or texts anymore. We were left to either stay in the room with the bugs or leave and pay for another accommodation. We chose the latter. After that, they still were not responding and we have not gotten any partial refund from them. It’s been over two months and several emails from us but no response. After much work we got a small refund (that didn’t cover the cost of our new accommodation) from Booking but nothing from Sishaus.
Apart from that, there were other issues at Sishaus. So to summarise:
- Bed bugs
- Some beds felt unsafe and were high up on home-built platforms with little to no fall protection.
- There was black mold in the showers
- No lock on the communal bathroom doors and the doors were some weird accordion sliding doors that offered little privacy.
- No locks on the lockers in the 6-bed room. So if you book one bed and share the room with people you don’t know you have no way of locking away your valuables.
- Funky smell in the part of the hostel that had the bathrooms and showers.
- Unprofessional service from the staff
If I’m going to mention something positive:
