Super cute, welcoming, friendly hotel

We were the only guests to stay, making this Gasthof even more special.
Honestly, with a dog and our son, we couldn't have found a better place to stay, giving us the opportunity to walk around the village with our dog, visit a castle (Artstetten Castle), and just simply enjoy being a little bit off the beaten path (but still close to the Danube).
The special highlight for us was the breakfast, which was simply magical. Amazing atmosphere, very nice food choices, and not the same as you get at many larger 'mainstream' hotels.
Highly recommended stay - 5/5.

I highly recommend this place

We stayed here only for two nights but the hotel is very clean with free parking places and free WiFi connection, placed near the Artstetten castle. The room was clean, spacious and we got a crib for our baby, too. The staff was very kind and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast, and the other meals we had there. For sure I recommend this hotel!

Very nice stay

Ideal escape on the bike route along the Danube river. The hotel is traditiol austrian type, friendly reception, nice room, value for money. Thanks. The restaurant served a nice dinner, unfortunately the kitchen closes a little early,

Clean, good breakfast

I am not sorry we stayed here, but I am not sure what the need would be to stay in this location. In this case, I booked the hotel thinking it was just on the river across from Melk. I was wrong, and I guess I got confused. It wasn't that far from Melk, but was in a village that completely shuts down at night. So, it was very quiet at least, but devoid of life.
I phoned the hotel when we were en route, at about 19:00, only to be told that they close at 20:00. Well, that was a problem, because we weren't going to arrive until 21:30 at the earliest. The gentleman I spoke with did in fact arrange for me to get the keys, and they were there as promised, as well as the wifi password. The hotel was very clean, the rooms were large (we had two rooms, for us and our teenagers), if a bit dated in style, the beds were good, the bathrooms were new. It did feel a bit like being in someone's house, but that wasn't a problem.
The breakfast was excellent, with a very friendly waitress serving. There was a big variety of everything, and some very tasty juices, jams, and cakes. The only real problems with this hotel were its location, in the middle of nothing, the village it was in being toooooo quiet, and the slightly weird feeling of being in someone's out-of-fashion home. The price was reasonable, for Austria.
I would recommend it if there was nothing similar available in Melk, but I would have rather stayed in Melk if it had been possible.

Let down by bizarre wifi policy

Our waiter told us that no, he couldn't give us the code for the wifi - hotel policy was that was made available only to guests who overnighted at the hotel. We've never previously struck such an unfriendly policy and were so offended we left immediately. Management accepted our payment for drinks even though we hadn't touched them. The hotel should really review this silly policy which I'm sure will generate other negative reviews.
Until the hotel changes its policy, recommend you choose instead the very nice Artstetten schloss cafe (see separate review).

Very good location
