Great modern hotel in a stunning setting
This hotel was a great find in a part of Austria that we had not previousy visited. It was our first time in the Montafon valley and it is certainly a place that we will return to.
The hotel is rated as 4 star-superior and in our opinion is at the upper end of this rating. It was extensively expanded and upgraded in the past few years and we stayed in the new block on the 3rd floor facing west. The Junior Suite that we stayed in was air conditioned was perfectly cool (once the room cooled down from an initial high temperature on the first night). The hotel surrounds a pool area and garden. We used both the outdoor pool (unheated) and also the spa pool (heated) and relaxation areas.
We were initially concerned about parking as there is limited surface parking with cars either parked immediately outside the hotel or in a small car park across the road which holds about 15 cars. Our fears were misplaced as we always managed to secure a spot, so the number of spaces seems about right.
Breakfast was great with a good selection of fruit, breads, cold meats, cheese, cereals and yoghurts. We stayed 3/4 pension which entitled us to mid day food and drink but we only availed of this once as we were out and about most days. Dinner was of a very high standard, and varied well night by night. The cream soup each evening was a particular favourite of mine. Each morning you chose either meat, fish of vegetarian for that evening's meal. We were assigned the same table through the week for both breakfast and dinner and got to know some of the diners beside us. The dining room was quite warm some evenings but that was probably down to the heat wave during the week.
We had read about the hotel being dog friendly and we were concerned that this might be a problem as we are not 'dog people' as such, but at dinner each evening all of the guests with dogs were seated in the one area well away from the other guests and we barely noticed their presence.
The staff that looked after us each evening (Eneida, Javier and Pavle) were excellent and had a nice balance between efficient and chatty. We also had good fun with a waitress from Ukraine but unfortunately we forgot to note her name.
The hotel is very well located in the valley and Bludenz to the north is only 15mins away by road. The hotel is about a 20min walk from Schruns town centre, but is well served by the 650 and 603 buses (every 30mins). We purchased the WildPass in advance which entitled us to use all of the cable cars in the Montafon valley, and also all public transport in the valley. This was a wise decision as we didn't ever have to think about the cost of transport; we would very much encourage visitors to invest in this pass. The hotel is only a 5mins walk to the popular ZamangBahn cable car, which gets you right to the top of HochJoch.
There were very few English speaking guests as the clientele is mainly from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. We managed very well with the language however as the staff had excellent English, and this coupled with our AI translation of the evening menu and our use of the small amount of German that we spoke made it a pleasant stay.
We both said that we will defintely be back, we had a wonderful experience at the hotel and left feeling well looked after.

Very nice hotel with excellent service (room unfortunately without air conditioning)
We enjoyed our stay at the Alpenhotel Montafon in Schruns very much overall. From arrival to departure, everything actually worked perfectly.
We would especially like to highlight the extremely friendly, attentive, and motivated staff, from room service to the hotel manager. You can feel that people enjoy working here and that the guest is truly the focus.
We were also very spoiled culinarily. Breakfast, afternoon snack, and dinner were consistently very fine and the selection was extremely varied. There is really hardly anything left to be desired here.
The spa area is very beautifully designed and invites you to relax after an active day in the wonderful Montafon. The entire hotel was also very clean and well-maintained.
However, a few points somewhat dampened our stay. Our room did not have air conditioning, which was a real problem, especially during the exceptionally hot days of our stay. With the high temperatures, restful sleep was unfortunately hardly possible. For the future, we would at least like to see a solution for cooling the rooms.
The Wi-Fi and mobile coverage were also somewhat disappointing. The Wi-Fi did not reach our room, and at the same time, the mobile reception there was also very weak. For guests who need to work or be reachable in between, this is of course not optimal.
Despite these points, the positive impressions clearly outweigh the negatives for us. A very well-maintained hotel with excellent food, a great spa, and above all an exceptionally friendly team. Overall, we felt very comfortable and can generally highly recommend the Alpenhotel Montafon. We will definitely come back!

Absolutely recommended
a great hotel, absolutely suitable for relaxing and enjoying a beautiful environment. At the beginning of July it was relatively quiet and we spontaneously extended our planned 7-day vacation by 3 more days because we felt so comfortable. The junior suite was very clean, modern, and cozy, the staff was friendly and helpful all around. The wellness area is great, the morning exercise training with Sabine and Ivan was a super preparation for the delicious breakfast buffet, because the food is simply excellent, the 3/4 board is worth it!

Except for the overheated room, we were very satisfied.
A very beautiful and clean facility. The kitchen and the service were super. Very beautiful wellness area. Super close to golf and the mountain railway, so you can easily leave the car behind. The only downside - we booked and received confirmation for 3 rooms with a balcony, but 1 room ended up being without a balcony. No air conditioning and all 3 rooms were very hot and you could not properly ventilate them either, so the nights were not quite as restful.
