We stayed at the Shire Hotel for 1 night last week. It was all perfect. Our room (307) was very spacious, super clean and quality equipped. Cosy furnishings with great, large balcony. The dinner & breakfast was fantastic. The service throughout the house is just GREAT. Reception (very funny lady**) the waiters and waitresses were also super sympathetic. Second stay with a shadow:

We were here for the second time and had always felt comfortable – except for a few unfriendly employees who were no longer there this time. The senior manager has now apparently taken over the unfriendly part herself.
Norovirus without a hygiene concept:
Unfortunately, there was a norovirus outbreak in the hotel during our stay. We were only told that we should wash our hands more often, as it would only last a day. There was no real hygiene concept: Sick guests were still allowed to eat at the buffet and thus gradually infected the entire hotel. Different guests were missing every day, and on the third day, it caught us too.
Questionable handling:
When we wanted tea and light food brought to our room, the manager called us to ask if that was really necessary – ever since then, we were only given dirty looks. We isolated ourselves voluntarily, while others walked right through the hotel to the buffet with buckets of vomit.
Medically questionable:
Upon inquiry, we were told that hand disinfection before the buffet was sufficient. That is demonstrably false for noroviruses – handwashing with soap is significantly more effective, as standard disinfectants are often not sufficient against noroviruses. In addition, you are still contagious for up to 48 hours even without symptoms.
Breach of duty of care:
In the event of a known outbreak, a hotel would have to isolate sick people, provide them with food separately, and increase disinfection. None of that happened here. Why it was not possible to keep sick people away from the buffet and instead provide them with tea and zwieback remains incomprehensible.
Conclusion:
The surroundings are really beautiful, but this shows how bad a hotel becomes as soon as there are problems. We hesitated for a long time, as some employees were really very nice – but the handling of the outbreak was unacceptable.

A wonderful week at the Auenhotel - warmth, comfort and culinary delights!

We were super happy with our stay. The Shire Hotel impresses with its warmth, cleanliness and excellent cuisine. We can recommend this house without restriction and would love to come back!

A perfect stay

We had a great time at this wonderful Inn. Ideally located in the Tuxertal valley, we were able to enjoy the charm of the landscapes of the region. The staff is extremely friendly and smiling. The rooms are spacious and clean. A large swimming pool and spa are available to relax and unwind after a great day of hiking. The family spirit of the Pension is very appreciated. It really feels like home. Everything was perfect!
