long stay in Vienna

Stayed for two weeks in Gally apartments. The place has a good location, within few minutes walking to the nearest tram stand and a 10 minute walk to Westbahnhauf station for intercity travel, and with utility stores within few minutes walk. We stayed in the ground floor apartment. The good aspects include large rooms with perhaps the biggest bathroom and toilet that I have seen in such apartments; reasonably well stocked kitchen in terms of utilities and a friendly manager/owner in Martin. Martin speaks good English and is prompt in his correspondence as well as service. Wifi is free and reasonably consistent. The areas for improvement could include a more frequent cleaning of the rooms, towels and inclusion of a toaster in the kitchen. The upholstery is somewhat jaded and could benefit from a renovation.
Future visitors should take note of the fact that air conditioning is not available. Opening the window panes can relieve the stuffiness but noise and potential security concern are challenges!
Overall, its location, large rooms and a friendly staff are major plus points. For its price, it is a good bargain. We had a good time and would stay there again during the next visit, if it is available. We would like to thank Martin for his hospitality.

Spacoius and cheap

We (SO and I) stayed at Gally apartments for two nights in july, and was surprised by the size of the apartment we got. It consisted of a large livingroom with an accordingly large bed. However charming the size of the bed was, the mattresses were hard, and so the total impression bed-wise is so-so. Also, there was a glass door (luckily not transparent) into the neighbouring apartment. Nobody stayed in the other apartment while we rented our apartment, so it wasn't really a problem. The rest of the apartment was impeccable. The kithcen had all the utensils one would need to make breakfast and a simple dinner. There were plenty of glasses, plates and cutlery, so postponing doing the dishes did not lead to any crisis. The bathroom was clean and had a bathtub with a shower. The interior was very basic, but sufficient.
The owner provided us with a brochure with events in Vienna, a city map and a quick walkthrough of the main attractions in the city.
The apartment was well connected to the city centre, either by tram or foot to Westbahnhof. From there you can catch the U-Bahn. The Schönbrunn is very easy to reach if you board the tram in the opposite direction.
It got really hot in the apartment due to the lack of airconditioning and/or a fan. Beware of this if you intend to stay here during the summer months.
All in all the apartment was spacious, clean, well connected to public transport and cheap. Would reccomend if you don't mind staying outside the city centre and don't have a preference for fancy neighbourhoods around your base of operations.

Spacious apartment with a hard bed

The apartment we (my girlfriend and I) were given was surprizingly large, with a well equipped kitchen that had everything we needed. A minus is the glass door in the wall to the neighbouring room; while the glass is blurred and not transparent, I'm guessing it isn't all that sound proof. The decor of the apartment was charmingly old school, with a large bed to match (with a not so charmingly hard mattress). The bathroom had a shower/bathtub, clean towels, and all other necessities.
The apartment did not have air conditioning; I don't recall the ad saying so either, but as the temperature climbed well above thirty degrees celcius in the day, the room was rather warm when the clock showed bedtime, so keep this in mind.
he location of Gally apartments is ok; not in the city center, but with a one-minute walk to the tram stop, which in a few minutes will take you to the nearest U-bahn station (Westbahnhof); from there you can easily reach the whole city with an U-bahn pass. If you don't want to take the tram, I guess the walk from Westbahnhof to the apartments is approximately 10 minutes. The neighbourhood seems a bit dingy, but charmingly so, and did not feel unsafe.
When we arrived we were met by Mr. Gally (I presume); he gave us a tourist map and a short introduction of what to do and see when in Vienna, and told us to contact him if we had any questions or needed assistance with anything. Even if he seemed a bit stressed, it seemed welcoming.
All in all I would, most definitely, recommend this to other travelers (on a budget). It was cheap but still has everything you need, and is located with good access to public transportation. A good base of operations for a stay in Vienna.

Gally Apartments

The apartment was in a good location. Tram stop was only up the road on the main street so was easy to travel to Westbanhof station and then into the centre.
The apartment was clean and spacious but gets cold very easily. The first morning we spent touring Vienna we came back and found the owner had been in the apartment and turned off all the radiators.
Wifi is an issue. It worked for the first night but then after that there was a problem in connecting which was annoying. Also there is no lift so carrying a heavy suitcase up several floors wasn't the most ideal thing. We stayed in apartment 23 which was on the top floor!
The owner was very friendly and trusting. On our final day in Vienna we wanted to go see some more sites before getting the train back home but we were worried about what to do with our luggage... I asked the owner if we could keep the flat a bit longer on the day and he was more than happy to let us.
Overall I would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Vienna as it was satisfactory and good value for money.
