The Baisan International Hotel Experience

You stay at the Baisan because it's cheap, and in this case you get what you pay for. It's run down and the smell of stale smoke is overpowering. I cannot imagine how this has a 3.5 star rating. The rooms in terms of their facilities are ok (TV, mini-fridge, Wi-Fi), the furniture is dated, the bed is ok and the sheets/bedding/pillowcases were clean. The problem with this place is the noise from the nightclub that goes on through the entire night (so you can't sleep) and the harassment (including knocking of doors all night long) from the local ladyboys. The "policy" of this hotel is to keep your passport for your stay because they don't trust you not to break or steal the items in the room. Do you really want to trust these guys with your passport? Is it acceptable to force guests to hand over their passport? After some discussion at reception it became possible to keep your passport buy only after paying a 10 BD deposit (refundable on departure). The swimming pool was not operational and didn't look like somewhere you would want to go. The gym didn't look safe. Didn't try the breakfast. The staff on the front desk were polite and they did their best to address the problems. The security guy was also good, but couldn't do much to help with the issues at this hotel. Overall, polite staff who do their best but the problems outnumber the benefits. There are better choices if you need to stay in Bahrain on a budget.
