Impressions of a Return Visit
I chose Accra Beach Hotel primarily for its prime beachfront location and the ability to easily walk to nearby businesses and restaurants along the boardwalk and the busy main road. Unlike some more upscale resorts that can feel isolated from the surrounding community, Accra feels connected to the neighborhood. I particularly appreciated being able to interact with local residents and move around the area easily while using the hotel as a convenient base for exploring Barbados.
During this four-night stay at the end of August, my first impression was that, although generally clean, the hotel's infrastructure was noticeably worn and could benefit from a significant refresh. I had previously stayed at Accra for a milestone birthday about 10 years ago, and unfortunately, much of the property did not appear to have been substantially updated since then. Paint, trim, and other finishes looked tired, and one hallway was extremely dark at night because none of its wall-sconce lights were working.
My room was clean but fairly basic. There was a refrigerator but no microwave. The patio doors leading to the balcony were difficult to slide, the private hot tub was covered and marked out of order, and one of the table lamps did not work. Initially, there were also not enough towels for the two guests occupying the room. However, after adjusting to the condition of the property during my first day, most of these issues became minor nuisances that gradually faded into the background and did not prevent me from enjoying my stay.
Another limitation is the lack of on-site evening entertainment. Guests looking for nightlife or evening activities will generally need to venture elsewhere on the island. In that respect, I view Accra less as a full-service resort destination and more as comfortable, basic accommodations in an excellent location from which to experience Barbados.
What helps Accra overcome many of its infrastructure shortcomings is its staff and location. The housekeeping staff members I encountered were pleasant and responsive to my requests. It was also a particular pleasure to interact with one of Accra's front-office agents, Cashe. She always greeted us with a smile and consistently went above and beyond to respond to requests, offer advice, provide information about sightseeing options, and arrange transportation for touring the island. Her warmth and helpfulness made a very positive contribution to our stay.
The beach was another positive. Although a band of sargassum seaweed accumulated along the sand near the high-water line, the water itself remained clear enough for me to comfortably swim in the sea on three of our four days. There was only one day when a fresh influx of seaweed caused me to use the swimming pool instead. I know there are beaches along Barbados' west coast that had little or no seaweed during my visit, but for me, the beach at Accra was still perfectly enjoyable.
I ate at one of Accra's restaurants only once because I found the hotel's food prices relatively high. Fortunately, this is another area where the location works strongly in Accra's favor. Numerous restaurants and other food options are within easy walking distance, including those directly across the street at Quayside Centre Shopping Plaza. Having so many alternatives nearby meant that I never felt dependent on the hotel's restaurants. One small inconvenience, however, was the lack of a microwave in the room. Although there was a refrigerator, I ended up throwing away some leftover food because I had no convenient way to reheat it.
Overall, Accra's greatest strengths are its excellent beachfront location, accessibility to the surrounding community, and friendly, helpful staff. Its greatest weakness is a physical property that is showing its age and is overdue for meaningful refurbishment. I enjoyed my stay despite those shortcomings, but the hotel could be considerably more appealing with updated guest rooms, refreshed common areas, improved lighting and attention to basic maintenance.
When I return to Barbados, I would certainly consider staying at Accra again, particularly because I value its location and connection to the surrounding community. However, I would be much more enthusiastic about returning if the property undergoes the refurbishment and upgrades needed to make the rooms and common areas feel more polished, inviting, and consistent with the potential of such an ideally located beachfront hotel.

Worst hotel in Barbados
One of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in since I’ve been on earth 55 yrs.
Rooms are old the pool tiles are falling apart and the hallway ceiling on the 3td floor fell in while we were there.. it was like the episode on Martin staying at chilligans island
I had an issue after I departed and called the hotel and the front desk hung up on me 4 times my wife called and they hung up on her 3 times . I would recommend staying here even if was $30 a night .. the mattress in the room had coils in it the bathroom soap is like prison soap .. the air didn’t work in our room we had to call maintenance the ceiling fan was broken.. the were working on the room next door at 7 am in the morning
Whoever was working the front desk on August 27th between 8:30 pm and 10:30 pm was very disrespectful and kept hanging up on us
All in all I’d recommend sleeping in a tent on the beach before staying here

Great......as always.
We've been staying here now for 15+ years, although the hotel is a little tired our room is always spotless and we are always treated very well. Staff remember us Fabian, Sylvester Shak, Turtle, and Romelle all remember us as do Mitchell and Cheryl in the restaurant. Suresh always makes us welcome. As for the pool, this year it looked absolutely beautiful like glass, Travon and his team have worked wonders, he is a very conscientious young man who takes pride in what he does and it shows. Thank you Accra for another great stay.

Perfect. Beautiful seafront resort.
Lovely hotel and perfect location right at the beachfront with gorgeous white sandy beach and a boardwalk along the boulevard and close to the shops at the front of the hotel. We stayed here as a treat for our 50th and 60th birthdays and it was a lovely stay. We were welcomed with rum punch drinks and everyone was very friendly. The pools are clean and not crowded, the private beach is beautiful and all amenities are really good. Our room was cleaned daily. We could park our rental car at the front for free. We didn't eat at the hotel as we found other cheaper and good places nearby but for just an accommodation, I would most definitely recommend this hotel.
