Not to be repeated.

Although they knew (via some emails) that we were celebrating our 50th (!) wedding anniversary that day, there was no response. No attention whatsoever, just a dry 'Congratulations' from the employee after I mentioned it.
The reception was rather cool and businesslike. I had told them that my husband had problems with his back, yet no help was offered to bring the luggage - with which he was clearly struggling - to the room. A man (owner?) walked by, looked at my husband but didn't extend a hand. I stood in front of the elevator with my arms full of luggage and asked the man if I should use the card. The dry answer was: 'No, you just have to watch out for the red button!' No 'Can I help you? Shall I take the luggage upstairs for you? Shall I escort you to the room?' There was not a living soul to be seen, so being busy was no excuse for this lack of customer friendliness.
The entire building was deserted, to check in you had to enter a number on the phone at the desk and then you had to wait until they came to check you in. Later it became clear that one lady had to take care of everything, check-in and check-out, breakfast, clearing....
There were also some things wrong with the beautiful room. On the desk stood a table lamp with a shade that was past its prime, the cord coiled around the base. It didn't work, so why is this there? The refrigerator was not turned on, so it took several hours before we could use it. The table lamps next to the bed combined nicely with the wall covering, but were set so low that it was impossible to read a book in bed.
In the comfortable bathroom, the light was absolutely insufficient to apply make-up, and there was also no magnifying mirror. The toilet brush tray was not very clean and the toilet roll holder was barely attached to the wall. The floor of the shower was very slippery, life-threatening, especially for elderly people. The bed was good, that's fair to say, and the towels were nice and soft.
The breakfast was also a disappointment. We entered the dark, empty room, where some tables were still full of empty plates and cups. Definitely not an entry! A table was set for 2, you had to get a second glass from another table. It took a while before the lady came to ask us if we wanted coffee or tea. The breakfast was sufficient, but not very extensive. We often stay in hotels, never before have we felt so bad as a customer and so unwelcome. It was more like: register - find your room - and make your own plan. We have other things to do.
You should not go to this hotel for a warm feeling, customer friendliness is not one of their goals. Such a pity....
