Chateau 'Magnifique'
We stayed here for a week in Mar-Apr 2024 and it was incredibly hard to leave the place. The chateau's owners, Max and Marjolein, are the most friendly, genuine, warm and professional hosts we have ever had the pleasure of staying with. Once you walk through the door into the marbled entryway you are made to feel like family and that the wonderful space that is Chateau Charles is as much your home as it is theirs.
The secluded (but not isolated) chateau itself is a real rarity, not because it's a 19th century art noveau castle but because Max has lovingly restored it to provide guests with a modern and luxurious home-away-from-home without losing any of the building's original charm and 'grandesse' - as evidenced by things like the original stained glass windows, carved balustrading and mosaic tiled floors that still adorn the place.
Highlights for us were: the fact that every window has a spectacular outlook, be it across the lawns to the wooded park that surrounds the chateau or down into the valley that meanders off to west and frames the sunset each evening. There are several large seating areas, each one a cozy place to simply sit, soak up the chateau's ambience and watch the world roll by. Our room (No. 3) was a luxurious, quiet, light, airy space with a very suave bathroom, and I'm sure all the other rooms are also. Finally, the large modern kitchen, which guests are encouraged to make use of, allowed us to stop at a supermarket on our travels and then enjoy a couple of evenings in (and alone) when it rained rather than hunting for a restaurant to go to. The list of other positives I could mention here is very long (e.g. the excellent breakfasts), the list of negatives simply doesn't exist.
In short, if you are visiting Wallonia/the Ardennes, Chateau Charles is the place to stay, it really is a hidden gem.

Wonderful stay, highlight of our trip to Belgium
The lady in charge of the chateau surrounded us with such warm hospitality that we felt like at home, serving us delicious breakfast every morning with local specialities like pate and cheeses. She also helped us with restaurant bookings and recommended place to visit nearby.
Highly recommend if you visit Wallonia, Belgium!
