Nice en-suite rooms in a traditional town house

Rarely write reviews nowadays unless there are none available or I think a place is over-rated !
In this case this accommodation has not been reviewed before, and deserves some praise !
Simon the Host is very obliging and runs a local restaurant (Aux Trois Sauvoyards) with his family. We collected our keys from his restaurant and returned there for dinner. The accommodation has on-street free parking and is close to the Market square and the Menin gate. We had a late dinner and drank a few lovely Belgian beers in the restaurant.
Also chatted to his sister and mother after dinner and went to bed happy and content !
We plan to stay there again on our next European Holiday.

Never again!!

We arrived and were so disappointed with the rooms that we walked out and booked another hotel. It was cold, no carpets, the bathroom area had NO separate doors and one of bedrooms you walked into the bathroom part first so if your partner was on the toilet that was the first thing you saw!!!! And the door to our bedroom didn’t shut properly. Horrendous experience for all of an hour or so.

So bad, we didn’t even stay for one night! Paid to stay elsewhere instead!!

The heating didn’t come on, the stairs were far too steep and the door to our room didn’t lock or the close properly. When you opened the door the first thing you saw was the toilet, so no privacy at all and no door connecting to the bedroom!!

Duplicitous and Misrepresented

We used Booking.Com to book a one night stay. It was advertised as a B&B and in fact there was a plate outside the house confirming this. On the day of the stay I received an email telling me that they liked to call their B&B a bed and beer. I was also instructed to collect the keys from a nearby restaurant. Whilst I had no issue collecting the key I thought that the beer comment was odd. The premises uses the common initials and words Bed and Breakfast when selling rooms. The owner handed the keys over telling us that he had left us a beer and gave no other information to us at all. When we arrived, we discovered that this is a private home with two rooms converted. Our room was on the first floor. Upon entering we discovered that firstly the advertised extra big bed was only a queen bed and definitely not a king. Secondly, the bathroom was in fact a small part of the room which had been partitioned off by using salon doors. The toilet, shower and sink was there. As was the only mirror. This room offered mo privacy and whilst it may be acceptable to some, we found it offensive. The proximity of the toilet to the bed makes for a number 1 rule only. Additionally, there was no TV, two very small lamps only for the whole room and two shockingly cheap and inadequate window blinds that guaranteed an 0600 wake up call. And to top all of that off, one solitary small bottle of beer which was apparently our breakfast.
In the interests of fairness, I will say that the room( and house) was very clean and the shower good.
My point here is this: Do not trick or mislead potential customers by using a recognised term- B&B and then fail to uphold the contract, instead providing a bottle of beer instead. This accommodation is at best, basic and at worst, mis sold. Use at your peril.

B&B zonder ontbijt
