Vacation with college aged kids

We have had a great time at Matachica! The staff is fantastic! They were friendly and went out of the way to make this a spectacular trip. The facilities were clean and beautiful! We booked fishing, diving, Mayan ruins, kayaking, and horseback riding through the resort. All were top notch experiences, I highly recommend fishing with Charlie and Charles; ruins, kayaking and horseback riding with Albert and Belize N Me; and diving at Mexico Rocks - we swam with manatees. Also make sure to do a rum tasting with Steve!

Exceeded our expectations!

Our first time in Belize, stayed at Matachica Resort. Such an incredible resort!! Staff is amazing, friendly and makes you feel welcome. The resort is so unique, as we’ve never stayed in an hut & sleep under a net around our bed. Cool experience! Surrounded by nature here.
Amenities perfection. Cleanliness top notch. Loved the individual casitas as a room, private & cozy. We enjoyed the smallness of the resort, personable, quiet and relaxing. This resort is the reason we will return to Belize! Unique amenities done daily by the staff (turn down service, different sweet treat left in room with recipe, fresh water, etc)
The seagrass was in full force, but a resort has no control over Mother Nature. They were out ALL day consistently cleaning it up so the smell was pretty non existent.
Home away from home feeling. Thank you Matachica Reaort for an incredible vacation experience!!

Highly recommend during the winter/spring seasons

We stayed at Matachica, and their sister accommodation Gaia, for our honeymoon. Matachica is beatiful, the employees are very kind with wonderful service. The rooms were lovely and spacious with comfortable beds (so important!!). We had a single aircon in our room which I felt provided adequate cooling for the room and I like to sleep in the cold. We felt so taken care of with the thoughtful additions of coffee in the mornings and homemade cookies at night. I also had the BEST massage while at their spa. Very grateful for their care.
My only issue was with the sargassum which is not a reflection of Matachica at all - in fact they went above and beyond to care for their portion of the beach and tried to make up for it in other ways. The sargassum in this area is STRONG to the point where you cannot escape it. I could smell the sulfur in our rooms (would wake me up), as well as in the water when I was showering and brushing my teeth. I even smelled like it after traveling home. I developed a bad headache during this portion of our travels unfortunately. I would strongly recommend travelers to consider traveling here outside of sargassum season if a strong sulfuric/ammonia smell would bother them (I typically think I am a pretty tough traveler when it comes to smells but even I couldn't hang). We were there during the months when sargassum is highest. We will return but during a different season!

Great place!

Great place, attentive staff, very clean, food was good with nice presentation. The drinks were not very good, but that was ok.

The reception (Karh) was so accommodating with excellent customer service. I really enjoyed my stay. The environment was very beautiful and cozy. I loved my room set up as well.
