Think twice before booking
I chose Zenses Hotel because it appeared to offer a relaxing, family-friendly experience. Unfortunately, my stay left me disappointed, primarily due to safety concerns, poor communication, and a lack of management accountability.
For the first three days, the complimentary boat shuttle between the hotel and the village was unavailable due to mechanical issues, forcing guests to pay for ferry transportation. When the shuttle resumed, staff never informed us..we only discovered it after seeing the boat ourselves and asking.
The most serious issue occurred when I fell while carrying my sleeping one-year-old as I exited the elevator. I immediately reported the incident and was offered only a Band-Aid while being told no one had ever fallen before. The next morning, I noticed the elevator was not level with the floor, which appeared to have contributed to my fall. I told the receptionist that I informed of the fall that the elevator was unleveled and she asked me to sent her photos that I had. I later followed up with another receptionist, who was surprised because no one had informed her or the manager about what had happened. Although she expressed genuine concern and said she would notify management, I never received a phone call, apology, wellness check, or follow-up from anyone. Even after requesting and receiving the security footage before checkout, management still never contacted me. As a guest, especially one injured while carrying a child, that level of disregard was deeply disappointing.
Families should also be aware that the kiddie pool is only shallow around the edges. The center is approximately three feet deep, with no signage indicating the sudden change in depth. In addition, the balconies have little to no lighting after sunset, creating another avoidable safety concern. Another safety concern was the flooring throughout the hotel. Guests frequently walk through the property after swimming or returning from the beach, yet the floors become extremely slippery when wet. This creates a significant slip-and-fall hazard, especially for children, older adults, and anyone carrying luggage or young children. Better slip-resistant flooring or warning signage would greatly improve guest safety.
The on-site restaurant does not serve traditional Belizean cuisine, so expect to travel to the village if you want authentic local food. There is also no microwave available for guests to reheat leftovers.
The one area where Zenses truly excelled was housekeeping. The housekeeping team was exceptional, consistently keeping the room spotless and paying close attention to detail. They were, without question, the highlight of our stay.
What concerned me most, however, was learning that the hotel was not certified by the Belize Tourism Board during my stay, meaning it was operating without BTB approval. I strongly encourage anyone considering this property to verify its current certification status before booking.
This review is not intended to discourage anyone from visiting Belize/Caye Caulker, but to encourage travelers to make informed decisions. A hotel can recover from maintenance issues, but a lack of communication, guest care, and accountability after a safety incident is much harder to overlook.

We we loved staying on the north side, very peaceful and loved being close to Bliss Beach. We had a golf cart for half the time, but also used the hotels free ferry back-and-forth to the southside.
