Crystal Semana salt hotel in Bolivia is a modern work of art hotel

The Crystal Semana hotel is a quirky work of art hotel made from salt with amenities you'd come to expect from a world class hotel including impressive original art and modern design incorporating natural elements of salt, wood and textiles. AC, Heat, wifi, comfortable rooms and large spaces for weddings. Game room, lounges, on site restaurant and helpful staff. I was impressed with the large yurt made of wood branches, onsite llamas (yes they are real llamas) and salt sculptures throughout the hotel. Our room was enormous with a large open space, king size bed and modern glass shower. The Crystal Semana hotel is new at 5 years old I'm told. Located close to the world's largest salt desert, a place of great beauty for photography.

Bad experience

I stayed one night in this hotel, spacious and comfortable room. Bad dinner and breakfast: both buffet with lukewarm and poor quality food. Service to review, on the table there was not even a tablecloth. We used the same places the next morning: it was still all to clean. Not recommended

Little maintenance, bad food, dead bird on the terrace,

The restaurant only offers 3 courses, quite basic and is very expensive compared to the prices of other restaurants. The hotel is neglected (unpainted, disused areas that have not cleaned in a long time -there was even a dead bird on the terrace-, who knows how long it had been there). It's not worth staying there, it's not 5* at all

Could be a nice hotel but clearly management don’t give a hoot

We were placed here by Banjo tours when we should have stayed at a different hotel (different story).
On first view the hotel looked nice, the front and interior of the hotel I would go as far to say is quite nice, if you don’t look too close.
However the main issue with this hotel is absolutely appalling food that is served. For dinner, we went at opening at 7:30 and few minutes later they brought the hot “food” out which half of it was stone cold. The selection is very limited, chicken and veg. But really the presentation and food quality was worse than a school lunch, by far. How a supposedly 4 star hotel can get away from serving such poor quality only the Bolivian hotel association can answer. Both my wife and I were ill during the night, my wife more so and was left with a painful stomach much of the next day. Breakfast was equally unappealing. I tried papaya juice that was watered down within an inch of its life. The hot option was scrambled eggs, boiled egg or fried egg all looking equally unappetising. I stick with cereal and my wife had a cup of tea which was made using cold water from the supposed hot water tea cylinder.
Other gripes include the rear outside space looking like a building site and shower door not shutting g properly meaning the bathroom floor flooded during a shower to name a couple.
The hotel had three llamas on site in a pen for tourists to gawp at and given how the hotel treats its human guests I really pity those llama. They should not be placed in a small pen, that is cruel.
This hotels seems to live on agency referrals so if you are booking a tour check carefully with the agency where you are staying. If they mention this hotel insist on changing or change to another agency.
You could not pay me to stay here again.
