Definitely worth staying in!!
Nice place, great owner, comfortable room. Great for young travelers :) Breakfast was very good, prepared by the owner in the morning, there s a TV in the room and a shared bathroom. Interior a little oldschool/.

Unusual accommodation, but nice
Well located and nice place. Close to ipanema beach,
The booking process included some additional hurdles due to the requested additional information and advanced payment. No Credit cards. (Only possible with Brazilian bank account and full email/bank account access while traveling)

Avoid! The low point of my trip to Rio
I booked a stay at the Bed and Breakfast Leblon for several reasons-having never been to Rio, I was concerned about reports about crime and safety so I wanted to stay in one of the safest neighborhoods in town by reputation, and because I wanted to learn about Brazilian culture from locals but don’t speak Portuguese or Spanish, it seemed that a Bed and Breakfast type of accommodation made sense especially given the positive reviews about this place on TA and the certificate of excellences issued. I dismissed the one negative review I read as an isolated incident and though I was also concerned about the policy of immediate full and non-refundable payment for the booking, I decided to proceed ahead given that the balance of the reviews seemed positive -oh what a mistake that was...
I’ll start with the positives and unfortunately there is little to report. Yes, the unit is located in Leblon one block from the beach. So this unit, which has a doorman, is located in what is considered a safe upscale neighborhood near the beach. Leblon is indeed safe as is neighboring Ipanema. You can book either location-they are similar and Leblon doesn’t confer any special advantage when it comes to a sense of safety. That being said, I feel that the negative press about crime in Rio is somewhat exaggerated. I have traveled in over 30 countries and Rio did not feel more dangerous than other countries I have visited in other parts of the world: Africa, Southeast Asia and Europe, for example.
Now the negatives-where to start? There were multiple problems on multiple levels. First, as has been mentioned by other reviewers, the room which contains two beds and can sleep 3 feels like a cramped college dorm room; the building and unit is dated and shows its age-this stands in sharp contrast to the upscale ambience of the neighborhood. The one bathroom is small and shared. This was inconvenient for obvious reasons. Noise is also an issue. For example, I heard showering noises just past 3am one night and then on several mornings heard kitchen noises beginning after 5am. Also, there is a major subway expansion project occurring right outside the front door of the building -although I did not hear a lot of noise from the construction at night, I heard noises during the day which further detracted from the comfort of the stay. The project appears to be in the very early stages of construction. The owner also kept the air conditioning off in the shared tiny common living/dining room area which made the space less inviting.
As if the uncomfortable physical environment of the unit did not raise enough alarms, the deal breaker was the low level of hospitality of the owner, Stella. This started months before I even arrived. Several weeks after I had paid the non-refundable deposit, I sent several emails asking for information to help plan my trip and about local mosquito conditions given the concerns about the Zika virus in the press. While she had responded to each of my messages within 24 hours before the deposit was paid, she took an average of a week or more to respond after she collected my payment and also required promptings to respond. Furthermore, she failed to send me the address of her unit so that on the morning of my departure I had to contact Bookings.com to assist-they were finally able to track her down and get her to respond to me just a couple of hours before my flight to Rio. As if that was not stressful enough, when I arrived, I encountered a problem with obtaining cash from several ATM’s and while Stella assisted me in eventually obtaining cash from a local ATM machine, she gave a long winded incomplete orientation afterwards and then was essentially AWOL for the rest of my stay. She announced to me that she would be away to deal with a family problem for half my four night stay but would remain in contact by Whatsapp and made arrangements for a maid clean the room and prepare breakfast. After a couple of exchanges of messages about tickets, she abruptly stopped responding to Whatsapp messages one of which included a question about shampoo running out in the bathroom. Imagine my surprise when after not hearing from her by text for over a day, I discovered that she had actually been staying next door the entire time and didn’t have the courtesy to respond to any of my messages! I was so concerned about service issues that I had two long discussions with her. From my conversations, I gather that she is currently distracted by family and personal problems. However, I also learned that her approach to hospitality is based on providing service on her terms and on how she feels at any moment and staying within the definition of a bed and breakfast as providing literally a bed and a breakfast. She does not seem to prioritize or consider the needs of her guests.
As an interesting aside, I also had booked a night at Casa Cool Beans during the latter part of my trip to Rio and my stay there could not have provided a more dramatic study in contrast: The difference in hospitality was night and day- for example, even before I arrived, Casa Cool Beans promptly responded to my questions to help plan my trip and because of their help, my trip to Rio was awesome and memorable-it’s no wonder why they are #1 rated.
In summary, although billed as a bed and breakfast, Bed and Breakfast Leblon meets this definition only in the literal sense in that a bed and breakfast is provided. The owner lacks service orientation and professionalism, and moreover is currently distracted by personal problems involving friends and family. The lack of hospitality I experienced made this the low point of my trip to Rio as well as the lowest in memory that I have personally experienced in all my travel experiences. This unit would be more accurately described as a shared AirBnB accommodation in a small, dated unit in a good location that serves a simple breakfast. Hard to fathom why anyone would want to book this kind of place on vacation given the multitude of better options available. I suspect that the owner is running this as a side business and passing this off as a bed and breakfast rather than renting the room to a local tenant as a way to bring in more income.
Judging from the way she responded to past negative reviews and from my discussions with her, she may try to react defensively rather than to make changes to improve her service. If you have any questions about my review of this place, please message me directly.

Excellent Choice if you are looking for that 'Homely' Feeling
We visited Rio during in June 2014 at the time of the World Cup.
I specifically wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast because of safety and to get assistance with commuting and general local advice about the city. I could not have made a better choice.
Stella, is really knowledgable about Rio and Brazil as a whole, she was always ready and willing to offer advice. She was extrememly hospitable. The place was always clean, the breakfast was always on time. I really enjoyed the fresh juices everyday :-).
If you are looking for something fancy, pool etc here is not the place . If your aim is to explore Rio so that you will be out for the majority of the day. Then here is definitely the place.
Leblon is a really safe part of Rio and this location is central. You can access most of the busses withing a 2 minute walk. Once the train line is completed there will be a stop just outside of the building.. The location was ideal, it is just 2 minutes walking distance from the beach and 5-10 minutes from the mall in Leblon.
Shopping Rio Sul is close but not walking distance close. Lots of restaurants and bars.
I loved Rio and I am promising to retrun to explore some more of Brazil. I loved Rio and would definitely return and stay at bend and Breakfast Leblon

Excellent choice for a stay in Rio !
This B&B has a great location, right next to Leblon beach and walking distance from all the places to see in that area.
Great hosts, very friendly couple who helped us with anything we needed - which buses to take where, what and where to eat, organized us a tour, booked us taxis, bought us a local sim card, etc etc. Stella is a ray of sunshine and made us feel right at home. It was my boyfriend's birthday during our stay and she had balloons and a cake with candles to greet us in the morning :)
Breakfast was excellent, and coffee was excellent which was not my experience everywhere during our trip across Brazil. Bed was really comfortable, we had enough privacy and all the support we needed.
Great stay, we highly recommend !
