Quaint Little Hotel in Great Location by Notre Dame

This hotel is right around the corner from Notre Dame, which is an excellent location! It was a perfect walk all around the city and not too far from the subway. Definitely in an ideal location. We somehow managed to snag a super good deal, so our room was cheap and it was very cute. We had a little table and chairs, our own bathroom, an armoire, a TV, and a full-size bed. The bed wasn't very comfortable (it was very hard), but otherwise the place was great. It was warm enough when we got home to get out of the freezing February weather, and that's the important thing! Since we went for Valentine's Day, it was nice that the room was cute and romantic. Breakfast was served in the Mexican restaurant below the auberge. It was very basic, some bread and juice. We didn't eat at the restaurant during normal hours, though. When we checked out, there was no one at the desk (in a small room), so we stuck the keys under the door. We also couldn't find anyone to ask questions most of the time, and the payphone by the check in area didn't work.

Overpriced with sloppy service

While the staff does work hard, I found the place to be extremely expensive for what it has to offer. The room was only cleaned before I checked in. Every day I had to empty my trash bin and make the bed (I don't know if this is a standard for hostels in Montreal). Rooms had a good size, and bathrooms were good. Watch out for the free triglyceride increasing breakfast which comprises one croissant, half a muffin and a glass of juice, no fruit. Wifi does not reach the rooms.

Location, location, location

This hotel serves its purpose. It's close to everything and the mexican restaurant downstairs is good. Fanny, is very helpful and sweet! Value for money. You actually save a lot because most places of interest are within walking distance.

Good location and a nice stay

Very affordable and nice place. I lived in a room with two double beds which was very spacious and clean with private bathroom. The atmosphere was good and the location was extremely good. The only thing one could complain about is that the breakfast was not the best.

Old Montreal: closed bar

We stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms are ample but you can tell they pieced items together in an effort to save on costs, I guess. The staircase is mighty steep so if you have heart pressure, book the lower rooms. The television channels in the rooms are not clear and the WiFi is inexistent. You won't even load google.com. So if you are booking a solo trip, take your puzzle with you.
For our first morning we were arrived late for breakfast (at 10.30 am). Their breakfast is 8:00 am - 10:00 am but the caretaker or warden couldn't forgive a mere 30 minutes and offer his hungry guests some breakfast. We were sent away because there was "no more breakfast." Our last morning, we made sure to be on time for breakfast but as excited as we were, the dry croissant and coffee just dampened our morning. The lady is nice but the old man is rude, like they are playing good cop or bad cop on you.
On the other hand, the location is amazing, you can walk to and fro Old Montreal without spending on a cab.
