Cozy, clean and comfortable
This is a lovely home in a quiet area of Nanaimo. Darlene is friendly and gracious and her home is very clean. The garden is spectacular and the view from the deck overlooking the sea with the mainland coast as a backdrop is delightful. Sitting on the deck in the evening watching the sunset was one of the trip hightlights. The room was comfortable and the house quiet away from traffic noise. o. We enjoyed the delicious breakfasts too. Darlene's home was a reminder of days when interaction with the host was one of the best parts of the B&B experience.

Grandma's house
The house is of an elderly lady who has it very taken care of and clean. The decor is very old, like the lady. Very small room and bathroom is outside the room. It is close to the sea and has a lovely terrace. Breakfast was good.

horrendous customer service
I booked a two-night stay through booking.com and provided my cc number which was to be charged two nights before arrival. I then proceeded to receive a string of emails from Darlene indicating that I would have to pay cash on arrival. When I questioned this, she then told me that I was the one that was wrong. (?)She even called me and aggressively indicated that I had messaged saying I would be paying by card upon arrival (?) which is not even possible since I booked through booking.com. She was very rude on the phone. Absolutely shocking especially considering this is someone that works in the service industry! I will never stay at this property.!

Not what was expected
Reserved room with twin beds.
Tiny, small bedroom with youth-sized beds.
Breakfast limited to scrambled eggs, fruit & coffee.
No use of the kitchen or food storage.
Isolated from amenities & not within walking distance to water. Guests must have a car.
Container gardening in yard was nice.
Plenty of pretty, small birds around property.
Nice view of the bay from the living room.
Quiet neighbpurhood.
Darlene offered her 'chauffeur service' to shopping if required.
Food home delivery was an option.
Overall atmosphere was homey & clean but little value for money.
We subsequently canceled our booking but had to pay the one night charge penalty.

Cozy B&B
We stayed one night at this B&B. Darlene clearly has a green thumb as she has a fabulous garden. She served us a delicious breakfast and the view of the ocean from her dining table, was simply spectacular. Our bedroom was quite small, but very clean. It was served by an equally clean bathroom, which was not in suite, but adjacent. However, the bathroom was private in the sense that we did not have to share it with any other guests, and there was a curtain that you could draw to "separate" the bathroom and bedroom from the rest of the house. Darlene was very sweet and hospitable. There was, however, one very unexpected situation that was quite stressful - there was no way to lock the bedroom door from the outside if we wanted to go out, because Darlene did not have a key for the door. This was a security issue because we were not the only guests at the B&B, so anyone could have accessed the room while we were out. However, Darlene did not appear to comprehend that this was a problem. This unfortunate situation led to us staying inside the tiny bedroom the entire evening although we had planned on going for a long hike to enjoy the lovely surroundings on what was a glorious summer day. Had we known about this issue in advance, we would not have booked this B&B. It is easy enough to get a key cut for the room, and we highly recommend that the owner do this so that guests can have an enjoyable stay.
