Mini Whistler without the crowds or expense

Sun Peaks resort is a great little winter/summer playground 45min away from the city of Kamloops. We stayed at the Stones Throw condos, which are lovely condos at the edge of the town bordering the golf course. The condo had its own private hot tub, and BBQ. We spent the week walking around the town, XC mountain biking, DH mountain biking, hiking, and playing golf and tennis. The golf course has a shorter front 9 that is more target golf, while the newer back nine is longer and more traditional with some lovely elevated tees. The DH mountain biking is more technical than flowy, so you will be disappointment if you are looking for Silver Star or some of Whistler's flow DH runs. This could be because of how dry it was this summer.

Disappointing for the price

We paid a lot of money to stay here for 16 days, nearly $10,000 AUD. It's obvious that people don't usually stay for long periods. There is no cleaning service, no linen change, unless you arrange prior to your visit and pay extra. We were not aware of this prior to arriving. Not even spare bed linen available, although there were extra towels. I have had to strip the beds, wash the linen and remake the beds myself. Not what I expect from an upmarket, costly holiday stay.
Because of no cleaning service, we have to take all rubbish to a transfer station, which you need a car to do so, luckily we had one. I dont know what happens when you dont have a car, as there is nowhere else to leave rubbish.
I spilled something on the kitchen floor, and found a mop and bucket, but I needed to rinse the mop, no less than 8 times, before I got anything like clean water and no sludge in the bottom of the bucket.
We were greeted with a bottle of wine, which was nice, and the kitchen is well stocked, but I think a lot of the stock has been left from previous holiday stays.
The beds are extremely uncomfortable, and lounge furniture is not much better. All furniture badly needs updating. It was quiet the first couple of nights, but once people moved into surrounding units, it has had times of being very noisy.
It is close to the ski runs taking you to both Orient and Morrisey chairs, which we expected. The view from the lounge area is lovely. The hot tub is great, and is tested everyday. There is a good television system, and play station set, if you want to watch movies or play games.
But overall, very disappointed in these accommodations. We certainly would not choose to stay here again.

Great place last year, not so much this year

Came back this year since we had such a great room last year. We did end up in a different room this year, the room itself was fine, it was the condition we received it in that was the problem. Dried gunk on the coffee table, greasy fingerprints on the glass tables, dried food, small pieces of foil and dirt on the carpet, hair in the bed etc. The heater didn’t work in the extra bedroom, light out over the stove. I did finally call the front desk after getting tired of having to pick-up the unit so we could use it, was told it would be first on the list in the morning. Someone finally showed up after 3 in the afternoon, she wiped the tables off, which I had already done, but didn’t vacuum as she didn’t bring one with, there was one in the closet she didn’t bother to use and the person in the room didn’t know it was there to tell her to use it. They did fix the heater in the bedroom.
Hot tub was great till maintenance came and put something in it and let it run with the lid off for a hour, went to get in it that night and the water was so cloudy you couldn’t see the seats and there was a greasy film on the surface of the water. Called the front desk and they had someone there quickly, but sadly the hot tub was not usable, as it needed new water it was so gross, sure glad I paid extra for something I couldn’t use!!
Needless to say we were disappointed with our room this year.

#20--Bring a screwdriver to fix the shower doors.

Stones Throw is more like Meteor Launch. It isn't that close to the Village. We were there in the off season and booked it because we wanted a place with a private hot tub. The parking is OK. You have to haul your stuff in and out which at this time of year isn't that big of a deal but if skiing it may be a bit of slog.
At the place we stayed (#20) the internet did not work for the first two nights. Upon reading the guest book it seems that this has been an issue... always. This was a main complaint. When we booked it said internet was included. In this day and age when people rely on internet for work and book places because internet is included it would be nice that that was actually true. Internet is spotty but it will come in at some point.
As well both showers had little notes taped to them asking the user "to be gentle as the door was broken". When I rent a place and there are little notes taped all over the place I think to myself "hey, just fix it". As a homeowner I fix my doors when they are broken and when I spend my money renting somewhere I certainly hope that doors are fixed. Too me this was unacceptable. Fix the doors. The door to the bathroom in the main bedroom as well was sticky and didn't close properly.
The living room has two love seats but clearly there is room for a regular size sofa. So if at the end of the day you want to relax ... squish in or sit on the floor.
Would I rent this particular place again? No, I wouldn't and that decision is mainly based not on location but on the little notes on the shower doors, the one bathroom door being sticky to shut, an uncomfortable living room and the washing machine not cleaning clothes properly.

Comfy condos with hot tubs just outside the village. Nice and quiet.

Great beds and nicely appointed 2 Bedroom Condo with a private Hot Tub. Although the parking spots are tiny and we had to have a few housekeeping and maintenance issues addressed the team at Bear Country lodging was on the spot fast and service was very good. Relaxing stay. Nice home away from home. Unit #21
