So much to like about the Neill Wycik Hotel.

****Four STARS!
One for the very welcoming staff and management.
One for the excellent breakfast.
One for the best view imaginable.
One for the location.
Let's be real: this is not the Hilton. You pay a fair price.
You get your own room, and share a washroom.
If you don't like a harder mattress, bring a twin mattress cover.
I got one locally and it made me happy.
I was staying a long time on business and travel.
Do things in the room to make yourself comfortable.
And be sociable: I met outstanding people from all over the world.
Celebrate breakfast: there are dozens of things to choose from including hot egg sandwiches, croissants, muffins of all kinds, fresh lemon poppy loaf, bread, all kinds of drinks. I never got bored with the selection.
And the breakfast staff is amazingly helpful and friendly.
Smile. It goes a long way. Calm down, enjoy the library lounge on top floor, and get out and explore. The most walkable neighborhood!
Thanks NWH. Hope to return again.
Oh, one other thing: there are people of all ages here. And I liked that.

Bad roommate experience

I made the mistake of replying to an ad on Facebook from a man named Bernard. He had a room available in a 2 bedroom apt (aka a B unit). He seemed like a friendly, harmless old man, but as soon as I moved in, I realized what he was really like. He showed no respect for boundaries and behaved as if I was just a guest in his apt even though we both had separate lease agreements. He constantly bothered me and moved my belongings around in the kitchen and bathroom. He kept insisting we spend time together and texted me multiple times a day. I really tried to avoid him, but his constant leering made me feel very uncomfortable. I tried reporting it to the management, but they weren't helpful, so I eventually moved out and lost my deposit to avoid further stress.

Fine to crash!

I stayed a few nights there. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was small, had a bed, some shelves, a desk with chair and a fan (meaning no AC). They charge you $20 extra to check in more than 1h early in case your room is already ready which I have never seen anywhere in the world. For breakfast, you get to choose 5 items from the cafe downstairs which does the job to fill you up. The 23rd floor has a rooftop which has nice views. I enjoyed the location and a grocery store is very close by. They would have to change the locks because it's more like a hit or miss to enter your room. The shared bathrooms were find but not too big. Some of the shelves in my room were broken or had lots of candle wax on them. I wouldn't offer something like that but ok. It's a huge apartment building where people also just live.

Very low level in any respect

Old, ruined, dirty and without air conditioning in rooms that are tiny and that in the summer become very hot whose windows do not even open if not an inch with curtains for sunlight that do not serve any purpose. I put 1 star just because 0 is not allowed...

Good

Hotel easily located in Toronto and at an affordable price, the rooms are clean and the bathroom was organized, remembering that it is a shared bathroom between the floors. For the price it was worth the stay.

Very good location
