Location. Location. Location.

Yeah, ok, so the hotel doesn't have an elevator. The young man at the front desk jumped up and helped carry our luggage up the stairs. There's lots of construction going on in the place, but the noise and the workers bother no one. The room was very clean, especially around the tub and in the corners of the floor, which is where I've noticed nastiness in other hotels. We love walking around to explore cities, and the location of this hotel is amazing for that. Should you be here to catch an event at Rogers Arena, walk Robson street for about 30 min and you're there. If you're catching a cruise ship, walk to Burrard Street, make a left, and it's about a 20 min walk. It was easy hauling our luggage because the path is on a slight decline. You must walk to the left and to the right of the hotel, as there are numerous restaurants of every ethnic food type imaginable. Also, we took the rail from the airport to Vancouver Centre and walked to the hotel which took us about 20 min and cost us about $6 each. These walks are super tolerable because the area is beautiful, with so many stores and so much to see. I highly recommend this hotel. It was a great bargain.

Last option

We stayed only one night before our return and frankly fortunately. The hotel is well placed but that's all. The room very large but not of great quality. Everything looks old and not maintained. One night is the maximum if we have no other choice.

it's all under construction and plastic sheeting!

The hotel is under renovation. I thought they might be working on a wing and that the rest of the place would be OK. Not so! Even the entry is under plastic sheeting! No elevator, and even if you're on the first floor, you still have to negotiate steps up and down to get to a barebones room. The place may be nice when it's finished, but for now, best to avoid it.

Good location

The accommodation was clean and staff welcoming. The building and amenities were very old and tired and there are no lifts which makes a difference for those a little older. Staff were very accommodating. The location is excellent with access to public transport, shops and food outlets

Back again and had a great stay!

I am always treated very well here and this time wasn't any different!
I phoned to make a reservation since I was having a hard time finding reasonably priced accomodations downtown YVR for one night (I had actually booked a room on Expedia elsewhere to hold a spot, which I ended up cancelling).
I travelled to Vancouver just for 22 hours for an appointment at the Swiss Consulate and did not want to break the bank or "splurge" with a hotel stay.
I am generally a budget traveller anyway and do not need anything fancy, as long as it is clean and the beds are comfortable...
I spoke to Ivan Chang at the reception and he was absolutely wonderful to talk to! Super helpful in pulling up my previous stay history and offering me a great rate and complimentary upgrade to a suite! He mentioned a portion of the hotel had caught on fire this past October and that a suite was all they had, but that he would honor a return guest rate for me. What a guy! Wonderful service and he really made me feel like a valued customer.
Yes the hotel is old and some may think it seems dodgy but it suits my needs very well! There is a Tim Horton's across the street for breakfast and a pizza place that is open late just blocks down. The property is walking distance from downtown and close to the Sky train stations (11 min walk). What else can you ask for?
Excellent stay to say the least and will definitely return! Thank you Ivan and team. :-)
