I stayed at the Grand Royal Legacy Hotel in Winnipeg on June 23, 2026, and my experience was extremely disappointing.
The price displayed on their website was around $76. However, when I arrived, I was charged $153.40. I was then asked for my Mastercard, and an additional $100 was charged as a security deposit.
Despite this, I accepted the situation and went to the room. I was travelling alone, yet I was given a room intended for two people. Very quickly, I discovered several serious problems:
- no Wi-Fi;
- cold water;
- advertised services were not available;
- no coffee-making supplies or equipment in the room.
I went back to the front desk and explained all of these problems. The receptionist acknowledged the situation and promised to refund half of the amount I had paid as compensation for the poor experience and the missing services.
Because the Wi-Fi was not working, I did not receive a clear written confirmation or receipt for that promised refund at the time.
The next morning, I explained the entire situation again to a man who was on duty. He gave me his phone number and asked me to call him. He even came personally to my room to inspect the situation.
He saw for himself that the coffee-making supplies were missing. He went back to bring them and even offered to make coffee for me. Unfortunately, I was already late and had to leave.
He also promised me that the situation would be resolved.
To this day, despite my repeated calls:
- I have not received the promised refund of half the room price;
- I have not received my $100 security deposit back;
- my calls are not being answered;
- no clear resolution has been provided.
I find this situation extremely concerning and disappointing.
I arrived expecting to pay around $76, but I was charged $153.40, followed by an additional $100 security deposit. In return, I received a room with several missing or non-functioning services, including no Wi-Fi and cold water.
What makes the experience even worse is that members of the staff promised refunds and a resolution, but those promises have still not been fulfilled.
For me, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had in Canada.
I strongly advise travellers to be very cautious before booking this property until management seriously addresses its billing practices, unreturned deposits, missing services, and promised refunds that are not actually processed.
Stay date: June 23, 2026
Amount charged: $153.40
Security deposit charged: $100
Promised refund: 50% of the room price
Refund received to date: $0
I am still waiting for a full and fair resolution.

No less than 12 times. Staff had to come and unlock my door with the key because the key card will not function.
There were two TV remotes I needed to use them both. One of them had no batteries in it and I had to keep switching for one remote to the other. When I brought this to the attention the hotel staff they did nothing to replace the batteries.
Repeatedly I had to tell them that the TV would not work properly and it took a day and a half before someone showed up to actually get it working
