An unforgettable experience at Yellowknife & a very good stay @ Aurora Bayside Inn

We had just returned from Yellowknife staying 5 nights at Aurora Bayside Inn. John the owner & his assistant were very helpful & timely in resolving some minor issues. We occupied the 3 bedroom executive suite with a kitchen & the cabin with 2 beds. We love the deck, nice garden at the back where we can see the lake & water planes taking off & landing. ( We took professional Aurora tours 4 out of 5 nights we were in Yellowknife.) On the last night, we saw some aurora but it was smoky & there was too much neighboring light for us to be able to take good photos from the deck. We like the location of the Inn & was thankful to be able to immediately have our first meal downstairs of our suite at Flamecraft restaurant.
Throughout communications prior to our arrival, John obviously is a very thoughtful owner who always does his best to accommodate his guest. Yellowknife is an expensive town. We were thankful to be able to buy from grocery stores like “Independent” to prepare our breakfast & some lunch- very good cost savings.
Below are a few comments/recommendation for even better stays for future guest:
1. there are 2 medium size mirrors, one in each of the 2 bathrooms within the executive suite. If you are short like one of my siblings or young children, you will not be able to use the mirrors. Adding lower or narrow full length mirrors in bedrooms or the living room will be really helpful.
2. The bathroom to be shared by the outside 2 bedrooms had no shelf space whatsoever except the little space around the sink or on top of the toilet . The guest has to transport in their personal items each trip which makes it very cumbersome. Installing one or two narrow wall shelves will be really helpful especially when you have 2 or more women with their own toiletries.
3. Electronic outlets can be improved with some not functioning or not working consistently.
4. Flamecraft- the restaurant on the ground floor of Aurora Bayside Inn’s menu is rather limited. They are relatively pricey too. If they can expand their menu & include some breakfast items (omelettes etc.) with their menu (especially after a late night of Aurora chasing), it will really benefit the guests staying upstairs to simply walk down to enjoy their first meal of the day after late nights.
5. Beware that there is a good stack of stairs to walk up to get to the Executive suite. No elevators. If you have really heavy luggage, you may have to break them up & bring contents up or down in multiple trips. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
The cabin is on level ground but is accessible with a short walk through a small stone/sand road. If we were ever at Yellowknife again, we will definitely stay at the Aurora Bayside Inn again. Thank you John for all your help and coordination, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aurora Bayside Inn!

Back as a staycation

We returned here for a 2nd visit recently---now as NWT residents. As always, the bed and breakfast was welcoming and comforting. Different was the chance to meet other fellow northerners as opposed to worldwide tourists, but the same friendly atmosphere and amazing morning breakfasts were available. But it does seem like current COVID restrictions have had their toll on well-meaning bed and breakfasts throughout the NWT. Time to lift the restrictions and at least let fellow Canadians visit again.

Perfectly quaint

I stayed in the northern skies room and was very happy with my stay. The room was clean and had everything you needed. It's on the lower level and being that it's in an older building, there is sound transference but pop in some ear plugs and you're good to go. There is a back door which lets you out on to a rear porch which faces the lake, so if you're lucky, you can see the lights right from your room.

Great place to stay

We stayed here for 4 nights. The location is terrific as it's in Old Town Road where there are some great restaurants and shops you can visit close by and you have a great view of the frozen lake in the Winter. The rooms were very clean and tidy and the beds were comfortable. There is also a lounge area where you can relax with some board games, cable television and coffee/tea. We were also given complimentary breakfast at the Dancing Moose Cafe. The food there was excellent! Finally, the owners were very accommodating and friendly. One evening, the circuit breaker went out and John had it fixed immediately.
Would highly recommend Bayside BnB as your place to stay in Yellowknife

Cute B&B on the water.

Definitely a special place to stay. Right on the water with a fire pit. We went up to Yellowknife for 3 night to experience the Summer Solstice (June 21) and were not disappointed. Location was super quiet and easy walking distance to many of the popular restaurants in Yellowknife. Included a gourmet breakfast at the Dancing Moose Café in the same building. Host was extremely nice and accommodating. Would highly recommend this place to travellers.
