Great overnight stay

This is the perfect place for the "more than adequate" one night stay in Calama!
It is close to the town and within walking distance (bonus!!) of the City Mall.
It is a short (5000 pesso) taxi/Uber trip from the airport, so very convenient as the one-night transition that we had between San Pedro and Santiago.
Our reception was a bit of a challenge with the Spanish-speaking receptionist, but, as usual, one always gets by!
Our room had a double bed, ensuite shower (which was one of the better showers I've had), a little kitchenette, and a mini outside (caged) balcony.
Toiletries and towels are provided.
The room was very warm despite no heating.
I can't comment on the breakfast as we had to depart early for our flight.
Good location and good-sized apartment =

A good 2 star business hotel but a poor turist choice

The hotel has a new wing with rooms having a minimum of kitchen amenities. The personnel is very friendly but clueless about any turist type questions ( they informed us that visits to the chiquicamata mine have to be arranged 2 weeks ahead and I had to look for codelco and go to the city turist office and make the booking without any problem for the same day). A simple phone from the hotel reception would have achieved the same result with less hassle. The rooms. are also small and the street noise is affecting your sleep (bad sound isolation and no air conditioning). The hotel was definitely not built under the guidance of an architect - it has 3 levels and no elevator and the stairs are irregular and very narrow.
For a work stay in Calama it is probably acceptable but not for vacation.

Good choice

We stayed in Calama just for one night because we visited the mine.
Ayelen was a good option to stay. The double room was big, clean and had a private bathroom, a tv and a kitchenette. There was also a desk, a wardrobe and a iPod docking station. The bed was very comfortable.
The place seemed to be very safe. The reception staff was friendly and helpful.
A buffet breakfast was included and ok.

Nice appartment

We stayed in an appart on two floors. We were four people and we needed some rest in our backpacking travel. We could cook some soup in the evening.
The breakfast is really good.
This was clean and nice.
There's nothing to see in the city but a stay there is relaxing.

Loud street, broken balcony door

The room was nice and big with a kitchenette and all the dishes I could need. Nice bathroom as well. Great breakfast. Biggest complaint was that my balcony door was broken so I could not lock it and felt unsafe in the room. Also, the street where it is located is highly traversed so there were loud car sounds all night.
