Great hotel
The upsides - The food is excellent & the staff at the restaurant is lovely. Some of the guides (David and Valentina in particular) are terrific and eager to answer questions with kindness and facts. They hire local Rapa Nui staff. There is a nice pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The scenery is gorgeous and seeing the sunrise and sunset, and the horses and cows is beautiful. The food is great - super healthy and fresh. And we really enjoyed speaking with the other guests we met.
The downsides - not all of the guides seem happy to be working there and it comes through their guest engagement. And most importantly, It’s not quite the “make your own adventure” as they say it is. They are focused on making sure you see the five major sites, but there is limited flexibility in “how” and when you see them. And the pushiness of the guides feels a little bit like they are selling a quota of tours with a cap on the number of guests.
For example, we wanted to bike to Anakena Beach and they told us it wasn’t possible and we needed to hike. And then when we arrived at the beach, the Explora team was loading bikes from others who had ridden there. Another couple who was staying for a week told us that they wanted to break up the core sightseeing with a long hike every other day, and the guide wouldn’t let them so they ended up with three days of 6+hour treks.
I would stay here again bc this is a luxurious oasis on the island, and the upsides exceed the downsides, but just be aware of the downsides and manage your expectations accordingly.

Best way to see Easter Island
The tours were well described online and met our every expectation. Guides were very professional, knowledgeable (including personal cultural experiences), and multi-lingual.
We would name the best employees, but we would have to name them all. They communicated our interests to each other, so that they could be sure that we had the best possible experience. For example, we mentioned an obscure site we wanted to see to one guide, then the guide for another tour assured us that it would be included, without us even mentioning it.
They seemed to know all of our preferences very quickly.
We recommend 5 or 6 days, but a minimum of 3 days to see the highlights.
Explora has an efficient model for making sure the guests get the most of the all inclusive experience.
We biked, hiked, kayaked, and boated on our tours. We enjoyed the pool area, sunrises, and night skies. The temperature was between 74 and 76 our entire stay in April. We saw cultural and historic sites. We enjoyed good food and drinks, especially drink of the day.
Transportation was always clean, comfortable, and on time. Drivers were all safe and courteous. After each tour, we were greeted with a cool drink and light snack.
If you want to relax and let someone else do the scheduling and work, this is the place for you. You can even schedule a “hotel day” with spa, sauna, and even massage (for a little extra), though we never did on our 6 day visit because there was so much to see and do.
The tours are accurately rated and some can be adjusted to physical abilities.
It’s not cheap, but we thought it was well worth it.
