Pleasant and comfortable

Central location in the old town, just two blocks from the main square. An Exito supermarket and comida just across the street. Good facilities, like a pleasant communal space and reasonable well equipped kitchen with tables and chairs. Stayed at the rear 4-bed room, which was quiet. Hot shower (of short duration) and clean toilets. WiFi worked well, also in the room. Friendly helpful staff who do their best to make your stay enjoyable. Overall a very good hostel. Stayed four days, much longer than planned!
Breakfast could be available earlier (now 7:30AM). Too late if you want to take an early bus. One egg is enough, perhaps add an orange or banana.
Rooms at the rear are more quiet.

Very poor quality. Made for a quick buck

Zero hygiene.
Quality of the facility zero.
Price absolutely exaggerated for the terrible quality of the accommodation.
Mattresses good.
Friendliness of the employees good.
The shower handle during my stay fell apart rusted, there was only one screw left from which hot water squirted out and had to be turned to open and close the water. Although I reported it, no one ever came to repair it.
The bathroom window faces the hallway through which other guests must pass to reach their rooms, so any unpleasant noises or smells reach their ears and noses directly.
In the bathroom there is a soap dispenser and a toilet paper dispenser, but only for decoration.
At night the employees talk on the phone and everything can be heard.
One of the rooms I turned down had no windows or any other opening for air, it was built just to make money.

Don't book a balcony room, the street is FAR too loud

Would have given this hostel 4/5 had it not been for the room we were given. It's a nice new hostel in a great town. The place is kept very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. Not all staff members speak English. WiFi was okay, kitchen facilities were good albeit lacking some items usually found in common kitchens such as cooking oil.
Breakfast was basic and could do with offering some more items. Hot water for tea would be great for the people that don't want to drink coffee, and a juice would also be nice (doesn't have to be fresh, just anything to have with the toast/eggs). The main issue with this hostel was with our room choice; we chose a room with a balcony and regretted it for the whole stay. This hostel is situated on what becomes one of Popayans busiest streets. If you choose to open the balcony doors during the day, the noise from motorbikes, cars, horses and people below is far too loud to comfortably sit through. During the night, the soundproofing is extremely poor and will definitely keep a light sleeper up. We were woken up every morning at 5AM by trucks and motorbikes flying down the road. Also the balcony room we were given was right beside the common area, so if anyone chooses to stay up talking in the common area it feels very loud. There was also no hot water for showers.
We saw the dorm rooms and they looked really nice, very large beds and very spacious rooms. Some dorms face the street, and I would highly recommend asking to not be put into these rooms. We also saw a private room on our last day that does not face the street and is a bit further away from the common area (not by much though), so that could be a good choice. If you manage to get a room off the street I'm sure this hostel will serve you very well. It has the potential to be a real winner in Popayan, but I just can't recommend staying in a balcony room there.

Great spot in Popayan

We spent one night at Les Balcons Hostel but our stay could have been much longer. We really enjoyed there: friendly and open staff, central and comfortable position in the city, affordable prices, useful and clean kitchen, spacious and organised room with the best bed we have ever seen in a hostel. The shower wasn't the warmest but we could anyway survive.
Thank you very much dear Les Balcons Hostel, it was a pleasure to come!

Comfortable downtown

Situated in the beautiful historical city center close to everything, clean rooms, comfortable bed, friendly staff, breakfast included, information on extra activities and perfect place to socialize with other guests.
Early in the weekends loads of noise from outside.
