Gotta visit fred's!

Very classy spot made, owned, and managed by fred with a beautiful view looking down where the river meets the ocean. I'd recommend having a car if you're staying here but absolutely no complaints, fred is extremely friendly and laid back. You'll love your stay here!

Very nice place to stay while traveling to the real Rain Forest in Costa Rica.

The attention by Ellie the owner is excellent. You can enjoy a great view to the ocean from the pool. Also; she can help you to coordinate one day tours to different national parks or whale watching that is a the major attraction of the area. As this is a lodge at the mountain and rain a lot, it is highly recommended to drive a 4X4 car or high car 4x2. The access road is not recommendable for low cars (maybe in the dry season).
In case that you reserve a cabin, those have A/C, ceiling fan, refrigerator and free WIFI (no TV): if you want to personalize your stay then it is recommended to bring beverages and/or food for your complete stay (there is a grill available in case that you want to make a BBQ with some wine or beers close to the pool)
Recommended to visit if you are traveling to the south pacific of Costa Rica.

Beautiful Property, Great Hostess, Great Value

We were three friends that stayed in a standard room on the upper floor at Club Fred. We booked directly with Ellie the day of and were thrilled with the place. She gave us good directions on how to arrive (do not go into town but turn LEFT uphill onto dirt road just before entering). Our room was huge, had lots of storage space and room to spread out, tall ceilings, bug screens, ceiling fan, and lots of fresh breeze. Our view was over the gorgeous tile swimming pool (it is immaculately kept) and the river Terraba and Pacific Ocean. Gorgeous and very comfortable. We needed no a/c because of the great air flow. The bathroom was great and we liked having the sink outside in the room. The lower patio and garden where the pool and breakfast is is simply beautiful and peaceful. Ellie takes great pride in everything she does and it shows. Breakfast was really good. We appreciated the eggs, the fruit, gallo pinto and toaster oven! Overall this was one of our favorite places to stay. What a great value. We only were passing through and stayed one night but think it is a great base for the area and would stay again.

I loved it immediately

Professionally ran and more of a home than a hotel, which I prefer because that is what I do back in England. Spotlessly clean throughout, well maintained and tastefully decorated. A pleasure to be here. Great views of the coast. Well done Ellie.

Friendly, Affordable and clean Eco Lodge

Very affordable and clean rooms. Entrance to the Lodge is via a steep dirt road dotted with boulders and potholes, which can be a little troublesome for some vehicles but not impossible. There isn't a view of the sunsets from the rooms or pool area but if you walk down the hill a little and exit the property you will be rewarded with a fantastic vista.
Parking is limited on the property.
Staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are fresh and typically Costa Rican [Gallo Pinto, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juice, scrambled egg, toast].
Rooms are very clean, ours had a double bed, shower, toilet, air conditioning and fridge - the wash hand basin was outside the shower/bathroom and doubles as a kitchen sink.
If you would like to cook some food for yourself instead of heading out for an evening meal, the owner can setup up a little 'kitchenette' for you outside the rooms, this is shared with the adjacent room and is under a roof/canopy. Stove, toaster, sink, pots, pans, cutlery, coffee pot [this costs an extra 5000 colones per night].
Bring a pair of binoculars as you can spot a variety of native animals from the balcony of your room, hummingbirds, geckos, etc.
Overall a very pleasant stay and good location to use as a base to visit the surrounding beaches.
