Pure Magic — Our Second Time and Still Incredible!

This was our second visit to the JW Marriott Guanacaste, and somehow it was even better than we remembered. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles and genuine hospitality that made us feel right at home.
The food is absolutely phenomenal — every meal felt like a celebration of Costa Rican flavors, fresh ingredients, and thoughtful presentation. Whether it was breakfast with ocean views or dinner under the stars, the culinary team knocked it out of the park.
The staff is truly what sets this resort apart. Every person we interacted with was kind, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and cared for. Their passion for what they do shines through in every detail.
And the wildlife… wow. We got to watch monkeys swinging through the trees right from our balcony! It was like something out of a nature documentary — the kids (and let’s be honest, the adults too) were completely mesmerized.
The entire experience is peaceful, luxurious, and deeply connected to nature. The sunsets are breathtaking, the beach is pristine, and the pool is perfect for both relaxation and play.
This resort has officially become our go-to spot for family getaways and unforgettable escapes. We already can’t wait to come back again!

Overpriced and Out of the Way

We were with a tour group and didn’t have any option of where to stay. We were here for three nights.
If you are looking to stay in an inconvenient location, near a subpar beach, have access to restaurants with overpriced mediocre food, and be isolated from Costa Rican culture and cuisine: this is the place for you.
The room was fine (two double beds—queen would have been nice). Only one side table and lamp between the beds. Nice balcony. We had a 5th floor room with a view of the pool.
Speaking of the pool. It opens at six. Would be nice if there were towels available at that time.
Most of the staff we interacted with were very nice and helpful. Most were very overworked.
Unless you have a car, it is VERY inconvenient and expensive to get anywhere. Hey, Marriott!! Fix the road to your driveway.
There are better, cheaper, more convenient options in the area.

We ate at all restaurants and were pleased with all the delicious options . The grill by pool great lunch menu and large portions . We did horseback ride offered by hotel great ride saw lots monkeys and learned so much about the history from staff .
Our favorite was the endless pool
And infinity to the ocean . Lots comfortable chairs and umbrellas

Overall a pleasant stay, but not without flaws

The resort made a good impression, though it feels slightly tired in places. We booked an ocean view room, which was spacious and delivered on the promised view. Everything was clean, in working condition, and the staff was friendly—though at times a bit forgetful, so a gentle reminder might be needed here and there.
The location is quite remote. It's about an hour and a half drive from Liberia Airport, with the last two miles on a very bumpy, unpaved road — which seems unacceptable given the resort’s price point.
Keep in mind that the Guanacaste region is drier than other parts of Costa Rica, with less jungle and wildlife.
Overall, not the best value for the money. At a regular rate of $1,000 per night (we had a discounted rate), you’d expect service and amenities on par with some other hi-end places — but this fell short.

Wonderful, but "difficult" to get there

This is a wonderful resort - right on the beach at Pacific Ocean with a very large and well maintained pool that lets you view the ocean from the pool. The breakfast buffet has everything that you could imagine. The rooms are well maintained and large. There is really nothing negative to say except this: It takes 1 hour and a half or more to get there from the Liberia airport - the roads a very rough with many sections totally unfinished and full of huge potholes. It is far away from wildlife, rain forests, volcanos. I highly recommend this resort but if you are only visiting Costa Rica to sit by a pool - there are many locations such as Mexico that are very nice and easier to travel to.
