Almost like staying in a wine cellar!
My husband and I stayed two nights here in Mikulov while on a 3-day personally guided wine tour through Moravia. Our wine tour guide personally recommended and booked this room for us (more or less a basement apartment) specifically to give us the ultimate wine country experience.
The room was quite unique, to say the least, and I must say, while initially somewhat skeptical, we rather enjoyed our two nights in what I might otherwise describe as a nouveau-rustic "wine cellar" room. It was really quite an interesting experience if you have an open mind!
Thankfully our wine tour guide was able to communicate with the innkeeper as I don't think my four-word Czech vocabulary correlated much, if at all, with his four-word English vocabulary. Our wine tour guide was an excellent translator.
The innkeeper was really very kind and willing to carry our two fully-packed (and heavy) travel bags down the very narrow and steep stairs to our basement apartment. I think my husband was a bit taken aback to find our room had a rather short, rounded (wine barrel-shaped) ceiling and an even shorter doorway that led into the "powder room"....my poor husband (who is over 6 feet tall) hit his head on that bathroom door frame every time he went in, but thankfully he was a very good sport about that (and the lack of a shower).
With all our experience traveling around Europe, we have come to expect we may have to suffice with "just" a bathtub now and then, as we did here. Here though, the bathtub (a really nice, modern, big and deep one) was one of the main features of the main bedroom. I loved it...my husband not so much, but he managed.
There were some very nice touches in the room, especially the in-room wine refrigerator (which we used to store our sandwich from lunch). One of the downsides was the lack of any kind of place to put clothes. If you simply travel with a backpack, this will not be a problem. However, if you are traveling across Europe for two months, as we were, and have a full suitcase, lack of anywhere to organize your belongings can be a bit problematic.
We loved staying in Mikulov. It's a very charming little town and this inn is right around the corner from the main street. There is a delightful bakery just around the corner which is open for coffee and delicious pastries each morning. There are a number of delightful little restaurants open for lunch and/or dinner within an easy walking distance. It really is a great location if you plan to be in the wine country.
I would expect a slightly younger (and shorter) couple might absolutely LOVE this room. I personally would rate it a 5 for it's charm and ambiance, but due to the steep, narrow stairs, lack of a shower, lack of any kind of clothes storage, and the very short doorway to the bathroom, I am giving it a 4. If all this works for you, you may truly it love it here....and I hope you do!

Lovely room, great location
A good place to stay right in the centre of Mikulov. A good sized room with plenty of room for 2 adults and a teenager...! The owner was very friendly and helpful with our parking. The only disappointment was that the wine bar downstairs (one of the main reasons we booked this particular place) was shut during our stay in October - to be fair though, it seemed that a lot of things in Mikulov were closed in October...!!!

Vyjímečné ubytování v centru
Byli jsme ubytování v přizemním apartmá s velkou luxusní vanou uprostřed pokoje. Ubytování je vážně výjimečné. Pan majitel je moc milý a komunikativní. Se vším poradil a doporučil skvělá místa. Apartmán je přímo v centru.

Piękne apartamenty w zabytkowym budynku
Pięknie urządzone i doskonale wyposażone, komfortowe apartamenty w centrum Mikulova. Połączenie historii z nowoczenym designem. Bardzo uczynny i miły właściciel. Możliwość zaparkowania na ulicy, naprzeciwko budynku. Na parterze winiarnia, w której można spróbować dobrych, lokalnych białych win. Szkoda, że w obiekcie nie są oferowane śniadania.

Perfektni ubytovani primo v centru
Dekujeme za skvele a velmi kvalitni ubytovani primo v centru krasneho Mikulova. Majiteli opravdu zalezi na cistote a pohodli hostu, apartmany jsou nove a skvele udrzovane vcetne klimatizace. Pan majitel je velmi ochotny a prijemny. Vrele doporucujeme.
