Fantastic location - mind two of your senses
There was a pungent smell in mine and my friends bedroom that was continuous from the bathroom. Despite having the extractor fan on the whole time, it was quite pungent and persistent. The next sensory overload was sound. Not necessarily from within the hotel, or from the streets, as that’s to be expected and really was not a problem, it was from the resident on site “musician”, through an incredibly loud PA system, singing (and that’s being kind) and playing quite well to be fair, an acoustic guitar, almost every day lunch and evening, a very narrow set and repertoire which was repeated, on loop, booming across the Giza plateau, I kid you not. Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters and Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here (I really wish he wasn’t) never sounded so….er….well….dire to be honest. I know the poor guy is doing his best, but wow. Who needs that when you have the view of the Sphinx (directly opposite it from the rooftop terrace) and the Giza Plateau that this hotel has. The view is truly phenomenal. Even from the base of the Sphinx, due to the acoustics and the fact the rooftop terrace is above the Sphinx, we could hear him playing so loudly it was unbelievable. How it is allowed is beyond me. I cant help but wonder what if every hotel within sight of the Sphinx did the same? It’s enough I imagine to stir Khufu from his slumber. By the way, the view of the pyramids from this hotel is only rivalled in my opinion by the illustrious and epic Marriot Mena House (which is worth the short 1.2 Km taxi ride).
