Nice budget hotel with beautiful garden

Kaleb hotel was recommended by another traveler I met during my trip. It is well located in Aksum. The room was basic but the bathroom in poor condition (flush not working, no hot water, no lock; also no light when I arrived but it was fixed quickly). Lots of mosquitoes so it is important to ask the hotel staff to spray the room at night time. The real plus of this budget hotel is the beautiful garden where one can enjoy drinks and pizza.
For breakfast, I didn't try to hotel breakfast (not included in the room price) but recommend going to Ezana cafe (about 5/10 min walk) for a delicious breakfast!

Nice garden, bed bugs not so nice

The place has a very nice garden in the courtyard, which gets the one extra star. The rooms are at best serviceable, but have seen better days. If all the rooms were completely renovated and the garden kept , it could be a very nice place.
As it is, I unfortunately woke up with dozens of bites all over my legs which are still red and itching several days after. Do yourself a favor and pay a few usd extra to stay in a place that doesn't have bed bugs.

Adequate

Reasonably priced at 400 birr/night for a twin room. Good location midway between the sights and the restaurants, a bit of a walk from each. The garden is lovely and the room and bathroom are adequate, but the WiFi is useless so I would try somewhere else.

Overpriced, filthy rooms but nice courtyard

The rooms are way overpriced. They are filthy, in very bad shape and the Wi-Fi have a very poor connection. The owner also said it included breakfast, but when I woke up none of the people at the guest house have ever heard of that. The owner is very tricky in general and tried to overpriced me on transport as well. Also, if you do go here and get a guide through them, make sure you pay the guide directly. I think the owner is trying to keep some undeserved commission for himself! Only good thing about this place is that they pick you up for free and their pizzas are pretty good, so don't stay here, just come here and eat!

Way past its glory days

It seems that since the last review here has been written the place has been ran into the ground. The garden is beautiful and well maintained, but the rooms are the filthiest and most poorly maintained I've seen in Ethiopia, even for this price range (350bir). Most of the time the place had no running water. We've switched 3 rooms until we found one that wasn't uninhabitable. The taps in some rooms are not attached to anything, others have no functional toilets, one didn't have a door handle, and don't even dream of a functioning water heater... The room we ended up in reeked of sewage, everything in the room was dirty and rusting, and there was a ball of hair clogging the sink. The owner really needs to wake up and do something about how bad the rooms are.
