Homestay and tasty breakfast!

Asimba is a pleasant and very charming guesthouse. We have got welcome greetings before arriving with a question, if we need an airport transfer. It was a nice gesture. Upon arrival, Chris in details explained about the city and traditional restaurants. We were disappointed with a travel agency we have had experience so far and wanted to find another company that organizes tours to Danakil depression. Chris shared a few contacts of local smaller companies. One of them was lately chosen for our 2 days trip (great adventure!). The lovely breakfast was made by Chris and Saba. Everything was very tasty! You get eggs the way you want them to be cooked, farmer milk, freshly baked bread, local honey; orange, strawberry and mango jam and vegetable butter (very difficult to get "normal" butter in Ethiopia), fresh juice (papaya, guava), various teas, spicy water from one of the plants from Saba's garden, corn flakes, oat meal, filtered Ethiopian coffee. We have stayed in 2 different rooms and enjoyed our visit to Mekele. If you need a trusted bajaj (tuktuk), Saba can call a few guys and give their phones. You can chill either in a small garden or on a couch in the house, which is nicely decorated. We have even been invited for a New Year eve dinner celebration as all other guest but unfortunately had to decline the invitation, because we were quite tired, so went to bed early. Very pleasant and helpful owners! Highly recommended for a relaxed vacation.

Excellent guest house and superb hosts

Chris & Saba gave us a warm welcome; lovely location down a quieter street. Breakfast was brilliant, warm bread, eggs how you like them, lovely home-made jams. ..... just fab. Chris was also very helpful in terms of the city, and what restaurants to eat in. Very clean - our trainers were even cleaned on our return from the Danekil! Thoroughly recommend this gem!
We have put this as a mid-range priced guest house but only in terms of Ethiopia - you'd never find anything of the same quality for the price in the UK

Fantastic Place in Mekele, Wish We Had Stayed Longer

Chris and Saba have a lovely home in Mekele with a few guest rooms (4?) that I can't recommend highly enough. We only spent one night, but I wish we had spent another night after Danakil here instead of heading direct to Wukro. It's a little oasis in Mekele, a short (10min), although not particularly nice, walk into the city center -- not dangerous, except in the sense of crossing a major road at night with moderate, but not particularly speedy, traffic.
The house itself is great, very comfortable beds, nice hot shower, good WiFi, etc. Definitely a good place to base yourself. Chris and Saba are also exceptionally hospitable. Together with Inn of the Four Sisters in Gondar, this was one of our favorite places over a month travelling around Amhara and Tigray.
Greatly appreciated also that Chris and Saba let us park our car here overnight while we went on the Danakil trek!

Comfort after the Danakil

If you are after some comfort post your trip to the Danakil, Asimba Guest House is the place. The location in a quiet residential street combined with the friendliness of Chris and Saba make for a restful stay (even if Chris is a Southampton fan). The restaurant recommendation was spot on and just what we needed after 4 days of pasta and rice! Highly recommended.

Asimba and the hosts, Chris and his wife, were excellent....

Asimba and the hosts, Chris and his wife, were excellent. The house was in a great location (and in a quiet spot), clean and everything was very comfortable. The breakfast and Chris' advice were wonderful too. They even provide an airport shuttle.
Thanks for a great stay, Chris!
