Good basic standard with decent location

My impressions of two days at hotel Heymo 1 are mixed, but largely positive. If you have the right expectations, the stay at Heymo 1 can be really positive. Heymo is characterized by the fact that here hotel guests do not pay for all the extra services, which are usually available in better hotels, such as restaurants, bars, laundry services, etc., and which many do not use. The fact that the hotel is new (opened in April 2022) makes everything seem new and fresh. Nice colors in the interior and fun details without hard effort on design. The “rusty” folded metal panels that run across the facades give the house, which can well be classified as “box” an interesting facade structure. At Heymo you get a good bed and a functional bathroom as well as buffet breakfast. The breakfast is not a sumptuous hotel breakfast but here should probably be enough options for most people. Check-in and check-out are handled by guests themselves at easy-to-use terminals. If you need help with anything, staff is available 24 hours in the foyer. Of the little we had to deal with the staff, the impression is positive.
Walking distance to the metro station is about 300 m and the metro to Helsinki city center takes 10 minutes.The hotel had the opportunity to buy soft drinks, fruit and other small items from a self-service locker around the clock. The offer did not give such a positive impression. Nice that there is a coffee machine in the foyer from which hotel guests can provide themselves with free coffee. There is no grocery store or kiosk near the hotel, so anyone who wants to buy something edible, for example, has to go further away, for example, a few stations with the metro.
The rooms are quite small - standard for 2 people is 18 square meters. The worktop available is small and the folding chair (like garden or balcony chair) is anything but seat-friendly. So sitting and working a whole day in the hotel room can be hard. We chose obstacle-free room to get a few extra square meters (21 square meters) and to our surprise that room had neither a chair nor a worktop. What is also missing in the rooms, even though they would be accommodated, are nightstands. Uncomfortable to put off, e.g. glasses, mobile phone, book, handkerchief packaging, etc. on the rather narrow ledge that is behind the beds.
On what basis Sokos Hotels rates Heymo1 as a 4-star, I do not understand.

We enjoyed every bit of our stay. Location was good, close to tram and metro to Helsinki. Just what we wanted.

The hotel feels new and clean, room was big enough with good temperature even while it was hot outside. Only bad rhing about the room was the poor water pressure in the shower and that the drain barely worked.
Breakfast was not as good as other Sokos hotels where I have stayed, very small selection with hardly any veggies and no fruit even if it is marketed as healthy. The seemingly homemade bread was the only redeeming thing. While at breakfast the fire alarm went off and staff just continued working without informing any of the guests about what to do. The alarm kept blaring for 10+ minutes so we went to eat outside.
Also not too happy with the self service checkin since the machine was about to charge me even though the room had already been paid. Luckily staff was close by and helped sort it out.
Overall a pretty good stay, even if hotel management definitely have things that need fixing.

Basic rooms in a spartan, Nordic style. It’s clear that this is intended as a place to sleep only. It’s good for a business trip. Breakfast buffet is ok - but it is all self-service, including clearing up. When a bus load of tourists hit the breakfast area at once, they leave it looking like a war zone, and staff simply can’t keep up with clearing it.

There is not real air conditioned so do not believe that the rooms come with air conditioning. They are kind of temperature controlled by a general system with the most you can adjust degree or two. Also the bedding is not premium grade it is the standard normal.
