Mostly good, but something missing for the price
Nice, very large hotel. It is a beautiful building, with high ceilings. The rooms are nice, fresh, good bed and the breakfast excellent. Still, for a room costing over 220 Euro per night I was expecting a tea set/heater in the room and other amenities. A large minus for me is when the windows cannot be opened due to air quality. Nice central location, but I prefer the design district next door.

Staff were relatively unhelpful and unfriendly on arrival. I got put in a room across the courtyard for the third time in a row, which is less than ideal. The room was significantly overlooked, and there was mould in the bathroom (5024). I've given this hotel multiple second chances given proximity to the station and ease, but im not sure ill return.

Great choice in Helsinki
Really lovely hotel in a beautiful Art Noveau building. Good size rooms with safe and fridge. Excellent breakfast buffet. Really recommend trying out the sauna in the basement (free for guests, separate women and men). Well located by the station, art gallery, theatre and botantical garden.

Recommended Scandic hotel
We stayed at Scandic Grand Central Helsinki for six nights, four adults in two rooms, and had a fantastic experience.
Before arriving, I had requested rooms with showers rather than bathtubs. The hotel exceeded our expectations by giving us spacious rooms with large, wheelchair-accessible showers, which was absolutely fantastic. The rooms were large and comfortable, overlooking the quiet inner courtyard, so we had very little noise during our stay.
There were only a couple of small negatives. The bar and restaurant were closed on Monday, which we had not been aware of beforehand, and the coffee and tea supplies in the rooms were not replenished during our stay.
Apart from that, everything was excellent. We also enjoyed a memorable dinner in the hotel restaurant.
The location was ideal for exploring Helsinki. We went sightseeing every day and made good use of the hop-on hop-off buses as well as some of the smaller sightseeing cruises. Helsinki certainly delivered, and Scandic Grand Central was a great base for our stay.
We would happily stay here again.

Excellent location, good choice
I would stay here again, even though the service is lacking.
We stayed in a superior king. Good size, bed was acceptable, although it had a foam topper. However, I still slept well. No air circulation, so it got a little stuffy, but it was tolerable. We couldn’t open the windows. Good size bathroom with a tub/shower.
The in room refrigerator/cooler didn’t work.
It was a long walk to the room.
I booked a room for the day I left the US so it would be available on arrival. The front desk kept telling me I didn’t have a reservation, despite showing them my emails and the app confirmations. 30” to resolve. Then she sent me down a bumpy outdoor path, to stone steps, to an elevator, to get to my room. We found out the whole trip could have been inside, with no steps.
When we returned 2 weeks later for a one night stay , the kiosk wouldn’t recognize me, so again a delay in checking in.
However, the location is great. Immediate access to taxis. We took a taxi to the Rock Church. He waited for us gratis. Then we went to Uspenski Cathedral and finished by walking to Old Market, Helsinki Cathedral, and National Library. We walked back to hotel, and we had a very nice dinner in the hotel.
The next day we walked to the Oodi Library, which was great.
The breakfast buffet was great. A great variety of choices, so we could try a lot of new foods.
I changed my hotel reservation to this hotel because it is close to the station. Then they started working on the airport train tracks, and we took taxis. Taxis are waiting outside the hotel.
