Road Trip 2024

Just returned from our second trip to Dolmayrac and Meric Gites …this time by road and it was worth every one of the 2600 miles we racked up on our first driving holiday to Europe.
The stop off’s along the way down being Évreux and Limoges were wonderful too though Le Mans on the way home was not so good .
This year friends joined us at Meric and enjoyed 5 days cycling in the area …local bike hire was easy to book in advance .
We don’t cycle but found plenty of places locally to explore and as a foodie the produce in the local markets and supermarkets were a joy. Buzet being my favourite place this visit with Bergerac a close second .
The Gites themselves are spacious , beautifully clean with one of the best equipped kitchens I’ve come across.
The pool is amazing , again so clean and refreshing on a hot day.
We brought our dog with us who was made to feel very welcome and loved his evening walks around the extensive grounds and woodland .
If you don’t want to make the epic ( but fun) journey by car then the tiny Bergerac airport is only 50 mins away along quiet roads with Toulouse airport about 90 mins away with more flight choices and still good roads ( are there any bad roads in France?)
Gareth and Fiona are the perfect hosts , readily on hand if you need them ,but not invasive at all .
Can’t recommend Meric Gites highly enough *****

Ideal accommodation

An impeccable gîte, rented for 16 people. Heartwarming welcome. by Gareth and his wife, accompanied by some delicacies, such as their homemade jam, some eggs from their chickens and a local wine.
The site is idyllic, in unspoiled countryside, ideal for cycling and hiking.
The swimming pool is ideal. It is in harmony with the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.
Very comfortable rooms: quality bedding, very pretty linen, careful decoration.
Modern bathrooms.
The kitchens have very complete crockery and utensils.
Cozy lounges.

Lost in France - in the best way possible

Just returned from the best ( if way too short) week in France staying at Meric Gites .
This was our 4th attempt to get there thanks to covid and ill health but well worth the wait and thanks to the patience of the owners.
Gareth & Fiona were the perfect hosts . A lovely welcome pack awaited us in our gite . Our accommodation was clean , comfortable and homely despite arriving to 40 degree heat …so the pool was amazing and also immaculately clean .
Rurally set in 16 acres which guests are actively encouraged to explore with fabulous views , yet only a couple of miles from the nearest village and intermarche . Local wine farm just a few 100 metres away ( don’t leave it to the last minute to visit) . Fab gourmet evening gatherings in local towns to sample food & wine , farmers markets and unique restaurants where a joy for me …but the best thing was to swim , chill and just forget life’s stresses before returning home with batteries fully recharged …we will definitely be back

Top class!

We spent three weeks in the Crillon Gite, very spacious for our family of five. Meric is a very special place. Gareth and Fiona are very hospitable hosts whose high standards are evident across all aspects of the accommodation. The location is rural with beautiful views, but only a short drive to shops and other amenities. Gardens and pool area are immaculately maintained, with comfortable outdoor furniture. The gites are spotless, stylishly furnished and decorated, with a very well equipped kitchen, quality beds and bedding, lovely bathroom and shower. After nine years traveling to France, this is the highest standard of accommodation we have found. We hope to return at some stage in the future.

What a wonderful holiday!

We stayed in the gite, L’ecu de France, for two weeks. The gite was extremely comfortable and very well equipped.
The pool was excellent and a gorgeous temperature, perfect for the high temperatures during our holiday. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, Fiona and Gareth, who were the perfect hosts.
The area the gite is in is beautiful and there are many local places to visit. We had a fabulous holiday and would definitely stay again if we were holidaying in this area of France.
