You can see the beach from the window of Room 21. I am American but lived in Houlgate when I was 16. This little hotel is clean, 1 minute walk from the beach, and you are right near many restaurants and shops. I would not rent a car to come here. Just take a car service from the train station in Deauville. Nonetheless, the hotel is simple, well managed, and the host is very friendly. Excellent breakfast too.

A very bad surprise

A very bad surprise! It is not a room, it is a steam room... All the rooms on the patio (14, 15 and 16) are like this. There was a portable air conditioner in the room, but it was very noisy and gave off a bad smell (impossible to sleep when it is on, we had not planned for earplugs ). Result: from 9 a.m., 78.8°F in the room versus 62.6°F outside. Window onto the "mini" patio so it is impossible to leave it wide open.
As for breakfast, very classic: only industrial products, nothing homemade. Search for profitability: even the chocolate spread is a store brand. If you are a fan of Nutella, you will be disappointed. Only the croissants and the bread save the whole thing. I give one star for the location and a second for the discount granted after we complained about the excessive heat, which amounts to admitting that there is a big problem. Other reviews testify to this.
Even the price (136 a night with two breakfasts) is too high given the services. You can find better and cheaper nearby: that is what we will do during our next trip to Houlgate.

Catastrophic....

A very bad experience at this seaside hotel in Houlgate. The only star (the first time in 15 years of traveling in France and abroad!) awarded is actually for the location, which is ideal for going to the beach or strolling through the streets and grabbing a bite to eat. The rooms in the main building might be comfortable, but we had booked a room facing the patio located in the back under a zinc roof. It is impossible to sleep in a room at 84°F when it is 63°F outside; a portable air conditioner is provided by default to vent hot air outside, but it is so noisy and smells so bad that it is impossible to sleep with it on at night. Result: sleepless night and headaches. Evasive response from the manager who does not understand the source of the problem, even though a review on Tripadvisor already mentioned this situation in 2015. He did lend us a fan for the second night, but sleeping with background noise is not easy. As for breakfast, I agree with some comments: $12 for a croissant, a few pieces of baguette, and industrial products from a supermarket! Not even any cheese from the deli counter (we are in Normandy!), nor eggs, and no homemade products. We have stayed in two-star hotels before and are therefore capable of comparing the different services. Conclusion: definitely do not book the rooms on the patio, number 14, 15, or 16; they are unlivable... I do not recommend this establishment; there are enough choices of hotels and bed and breakfasts nearby to find what you are looking for... and enjoy restful nights!

We will be back!!

It's the second time we've been here and it's still as good. Good breakfast ( croissants and fresh bread). The staff is attentive and very welcoming. Nice and comfortable sea view room. Bathroom a little narrow but clean. Located in the city center and 2 steps from the sea. Restaurants.
Small parking (there is another one a little further). In short, very satisfied.

Very medium

Very mixed of this stay. Pros of the hotel: Located in the center of Houlgate with shops nearby, Friendly Welcoming. Points to review: the sea view is not really one, you have to lean to the window to see the sea, dust in the room everywhere, kettle unusable because of the limestone, fan unusable because of dust, shower room full of rust and dilapidated, yellow and moldy joints, dirty fridge...etc
Breakfast is very simple, with little choice and everything is quite industrial. the room is quite nice. It is worth 11€ no more.
The room rate is therefore too high taking into account the above remarks. So we'll go somewhere else next time. Too bad because there is potential but there is a little work.
