Cool Pleasant Retreat from Sightseeing, Househunting & the Sun
We rented the Hortensia apartment for 7 nights whilst looking for a property to buy in France in the Loire. This place is brilliantly situated for tourists (and house hunters) - right in the centre of "chateau land", (there's a chateau virtually every 5 km), just 10 minutes off the motorway (A85), approx. 45 minutes from Tours and just 5 minutes from a pretty town with several good restaurant.
The close restaurants were great for us as we often returned late but the facilities in the apartment were also fine for the cooking we did some nights. We had some lovely nights eating our meal on the patio outside the apartment whilst stargazing. And the heated pool was great for relaxing by when we had a break from househunting.
But the most important element of any such rental is the owner who in this case was a great host who provided lots of local information and made us very welcome.

Peaceful countryside studios
I stay at Les Iris every time I visit this area and I simply love it. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The studios are beautiful, convenient and always tidy. The rooms are decorated by unique textiles and paintings made by the owner, which give the place a very homely, cozy touch.
The flower garden and the views on top of the hill, where this place is located, are superb. There's a swimming pool, patio tables for outdoor breakfast and free books available. There are a number of castles to visit near Les Iris, as well as authentic French countryside villages with patisseries, restaurants etc. A perfect, quiet, beautiful place for a weekend getaway or a longer holiday!

Lovely peaceful place!
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Studio Les Iris. Arlene and Jean-Louise made us very welcome and Arlene was so helpful with local information before we arrived. The setting is so serene and peaceful. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great so we didn't get to use the lovely swimming pool. Our second day was lovely and after visiting one of the beautiful chateaus we relaxed in the chairs in the garden. It is very private.
The apartment has everything you need with great heating. The weather was wet and raining a couple of days but it was warm enough inside without having to use the heating.
I would highly recommend this accommodation. So handy to wonderful Chateaus and an easy drive for us from Saint Pierre des Cors station where we hired our car. Monthou-Sur-Cher is a quiet peaceful and quaint little village.

Excellent for family holiday
We were 6/7 self-catering and had booked both the Gite Bellevue (for 4/5) and the Tilleul Studio(for 2) but all ate upstairs on the gite terrace quite comfortably. (Gave grandparents and family their own "space"!) Both gite and studio very well equipped and the gas BBQ on gite terrace was excellent. All cleaning and washing facilities were inclusive and excellent. Pool was up a slope behind the property and very good but small children really need to be able to swim - uniform depth. Hosts Arlene and Jean Louis were very friendly and helpful and dealt with any queries/issues immediately. Their own label wine is also VG. Location is beautiful and very peaceful and view over valley idyllic. Good centre for all main Loire chateaux and Montrichard beach with sand/canoes and separate pool complex (12 mins drive). Hotel de l'Ecole at Pontlevoy has superb restaurant and L'Essential at Feings near Fougeres is also excellent. Overall, we felt Les Iris exceeded our expectations and the web photos do not really do it justice.

Peaceful place
We stayed for a week in July in Gite Bellevue. This is self contained and self catering although you can order evening meals. It can sleep 7 but you would struggle. Ideal for 2 or - family of 4. The single beds are in alcoves under the eaves with no windows, so not for the claustrophobic. The main bedroom has a double and one single with en-suite facilities in a curtained off section. There is also another bathroom with bath. Raised deck area with gas BBQ was great and very private. Laundry facilities free on site. We did not use the pool as the weather was not warm enough but it looked good. Great location for touring the loire valley, but you do need to drive everywhere as no restaurants in village. Lovely restaurant at the hotel in Pontlevoy which is a short drive away. Beware if you have a low slung car. The entrance drive is very steep!
Well equipped with kitchen dining, living area, but watch your head on the eaves! Wish we had known that it had a DVD player, as we could have taken some to watch. friendly owners who are on hand if necessary.
