Difficult Access, Lacking Necessities
This hotel is very inconvenient to access. The GPS took us to a highway exit and, for 1.6 kilometers, we followed a twisty, narrow, remote old roadway which seems like it hasn't been maintained for decades. It was barely paved anymore and full of potholes and bumps. There were no other cars on the road and, if it had been nighttime, I'd have feared for my life. Then we followed a better road, maneuvering roundabouts for another kilometer until we arrived at hotel alley. Kyriad Perignan Sud is located at the very end of the hotel line.
Kyriad is pretty and modern, with a boutique ambiance. The young lady at check-in was very pleasant. We paid 5 euros room tax in addition to what we had prepaid through the booking site.
Hubby and I were hungry after driving most of the day, so we inquired about food. There is no restaurant at the hotel, nor are there any health-conscious snacks in the pantry. But there are two restaurants within reasonable driving distance. After driving to both, I recommend neither.
Our king room was large and starkly furnished. No decor to speak of. The toilet room is separate from the shower room, located near the entry door instead of in the bedroom area, which is actually preferable except that there is no sink for washing hands in the toilet room. So you're back and forth between the toilet room and the sink room if you get up in the middle of the night.
We couldn't figure out how to operate the thermostat on the wall and, after the room failed to warm up a couple hours after check-in, we phoned the front desk and learned that the desk receptionist has to turn it on downstairs. Then it warmed up sufficiently.
We were surprised to hear the room phone ring the next morning at 9:30. When I answered, the desk agent asked if we were coming down to breakfast. I had paid for two people to eat breakfast, so I said that we were. She informed me that breakfast ended at 9:30 but that they would wait for us to come down. Since Hubby was still in bed, I cancelled breakfast and asked that the money be refunded. She agreed to do that. During our prior two weeks touring Europe, breakfast hours ended at 11:00, so we were caught off guard by the early hour. We also learned that check-out at Kyriad is at 11:00, rather than noon like the prior hotels we had booked.
Regarding room comfort, we appreciated the blackout curtains and the wi-fi speed. Furnishings included a king bed, small desk and wicker chair, wooden luggage table, TV, two bedside tables with lamps, and sufficient shelf space in the closet. There are no reading lights beside the bed, which is problematic for guests who enjoy paper books.
Amenities were minimal - a water kettle with coffee or tea, hair dryer, and a makeup mirror mounted on the shower room mirror. No personal care products are provided. There's a soap dispenser on the wall next to the sink and in the shower.
The tile shower floor is extremely slippery when wet. There is no hand rail. The shower sprayer is mounted too low on the wall, so my 6-foot Hubby had to stoop six inches to wash his hair.
In summary, this hotel is adequate, if inconvenient, for an overnight stay.
