JUST LIKE IT WAS 40 OR 50 YEARS AGO...

This establishment has remained "as it was," staying there is like rediscovering the decor of hotel rooms from a few decades ago. After all, the little vintage touch can be appealing, why not? But a little makeover and a good refresh would still be welcome (paint on the bed frames a bit chipped, linoleum on the floor peeling in places, green space overgrown...). That being said, the rooms are certainly old-fashioned but clean, and the bedding is very comfortable. The establishment also has secure parking, which is a plus. The breakfasts are brief but decent. In short, for a short stay, it's fine.

Near Vernon and Giverny

Just a short walk from the hotel was the Seine River, where we saw a couple of swans.
There was a lovely French / Mediterranean restaurant in nearby Vernon, le Convivial, where we shared a meal of duck with honey, and Vientiane for dessert, both excellent choices.
Situated not far from Giverny.

An average hotel which could do with some renovation.

Hotel Du Haut Marais is an average hotel which could do with some renovation.
The breakfast is okay, fruit, cereal, coffee, croissant etc.
There is secure parking on-site.
There is no air-con.
The staff on reception are friendly and will recommend local restaurants.
There is a reasonable wi-fi connection.
A new floor in the room I was given wouldn't go a miss (see photo).
A clean of the tiles in the shower (see photo) and a shower rail securely fixed to the wall (see photo).
As I typed earlier, a hotel which could do with some renovation, peeling paint above the shower cubicle isn't good.

Great value for money

Looks a little run down from outside. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, the room was quiet. It had a large secure car park, which closed at 10, but a code was given to enterAll the basics that are needed. The management were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. It was just a 30 minute walk into Vernon, alongside the river. We stayed here for a trip to Giverny, and were more than happy with the hotel. I recommend this hotel. It's excellent when you take into account the price. Don't be put off by its' 2 star rating
