Our second wonderful stay

As mentioned in my previous review last year this is a place I have passed a number of times and really wanted to say at. Last year we stayed one night with another person. This year, with just the two of us, it was 3 nights.
The hotel is in the village of Ste Sabine which is just a normal French village with farming being at the heart of it, although one or two more modern and expensive house are there.
Having gone thought the gates and parked someone comes to pick up your luggage. There is some shade in the parking area. We were checked in and then we were taken to the terrace, which is in effect on the first floor. Here a welcome drink which given, our long drive was supplemented by beer and white wine.
Access to our room, which was in the main building was via a marble stairway and then a wooden spiral staircase to floor 3. There is a lift for those who might need or prefer this way of access. Having not been in the other areas of the hotel I cannot comment on access, although it seems reasonable that similar access facilities are there.
Given the extreme temperatures at the time (up to 41degress) the air-con in the room was welcome but not needed all the time. Being on the north side it was quite comfortable to have the air-con off and the windows open.
The room was not huge but perfectly ok with a double bed, a separate toilet from the bathroom, which had a bath/shower, the latter with 2 types.
Views from our room and both the terrace and restaurant are over a small lake, with woods and then on to the site of Chateauneuf.
Dinner is served in the restaurant, down the stairs from by the reception. The menu is fine, although it might seem a bit limited if you stay for more than 4 or 5 days. That said I had the same starter 3 days in a row which I was more than happy with. The menu has an English translation. The wine menu is very extensive.
The service was excellent on the 1st and 3rd evenings. On the 2nd it was not as good, although there was no clear indication of why this might be the case. It was in no means bad but just not quite up to the other two nights.
Breakfast is served in the same place, but in good weather it can be taken on the terrace outside. This is in the shade in the morning so despite the heat it was very comfortable. It is served from 07.30 but our experience was that it was not always fully ready at this time so a 07.40+ arrival might be best if you are an early bird. Drinks and eggs etc orders are taken. The rest is a buffet. All very nice.
There is a pool on the lawn in front of the hotel and some grounds you can walk round.
Staff we found friendly and accommodating, most spoke English, although to try communication in French is often apricated.
In the summer large numbers of house martins are nesting at the front of the hotel and the fluty song of golden oriole in the4 trees near the lake.
This is what some might consider an expensive hotel but in my opinion worth it. We are now planning a return next year.

Cher Monsieur Wylie,
Thank you so much for this wonderfully detailed review, and for choosing to spend three nights with us this time at our Property Château Sainte Sabine — we are delighted you returned after last year's stay, and even more delighted that you are already planning to come back next year.
We are so pleased that the welcome drink on the terrace, the views over the lake towards Châteauneuf, and the peaceful, birdsong-filled setting made such an impression. Your mention of the house martins and golden orioles brought a smile to our whole team — this is one of the true joys of a summer stay at Château Sainte Sabine.
We are glad the air conditioning served you well during that exceptional heatwave, and that you found the room and bathroom comfortable for your stay. Thank you, too, for your honest feedback about the second evening's service — while we are pleased it did not overshadow the rest of your stay, we take this seriously and will share your comments with the restaurant team to understand what happened and ensure a more consistent experience for all our guests, every evening.
Your note about breakfast timing is very helpful as well, and we will look at how we can be better prepared for guests arriving right at opening time.
Thank you again for such a generous and thoughtful review, and for recommending us so warmly. We very much look forward to welcoming you both back next year in Burgundy !
With our warmest regards,

An unbelievable stay, highly recommend

Some Hotels are costing, warm, friendly. Some offer great facilities, great food, stunning views. Some offer personal service, attention to details.
This just offers the whole lot!
I have never stayed anywhere that feels like this. Every corner you turn was impeccable. Every detail in the room thought about. The food esquiat. The service spot on. The scenary beautiful.
The unfortunate thing was we only experienced one night!! This was a stop over on a road trip. We had and aray of food between 8 of us all of which was beautifully presented and tasted great. Breakfast was excellent, gated parking for our cars. It was sensibly priced all told for dinner at circa £100/head with alcohol and the room £181.00 was a bargain.
Well done all, absolutely look forward to the next road trip and will make an effort to ensure the route takes this Hotel in.

Good Relais & Châteaux

Excellent Relais & Châteaux establishment in Burgundy. The staff is very attentive and extremely warm and helpful, always smiling and attentive. The room is very comfortable, well-equipped with super comfortable bedding and excellent soundproofing. As for breakfast, it could be a bit more extensive in terms of options compared to what other establishments in the same chain offer, but the products are all of good quality and sufficient for a good breakfast.
The pool is also very pleasant.
