Charming mill

It is sited in a lovely old mill by the river. We stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage which had everything we needed for an overnight stay with our dog. It’s close to the autoroute and I wish we could have stayed more than one night.
Marion and her family couldn’t have been more helpful. And our dog loved playing with theirs in the river.

Overnight stay en route through France

We were a family with a long journey and we were delighted with the kind hospitality we received at Le Moulin. Our hosts were understanding about our rather late arrival and our fatigue and soon had us feeling cheerful and rested again. The dinner (table d'hote) was superb, freshly prepared from excellent local indredients and delicious. We so enjoyed our stay that we repeated it on the return journey back to the uk.
I warmly reccomend this delightful place.

Perfect stopover or base for exploring the Auvergne

On the advice of other travellers we chose to stay at this Chambre d'Hote as our stopover on a drive from top to bottom of France. It was an excellent decision.
Dolores, Pierre and their family made us feel instantly welcome and relaxed. Their beautiful old water mill is a haven of peace and nature. It is set in its own grounds, which it was made clear we were welcome to explore. There is woodland, a river and millrace and meadow land where the family keep a number of animals including horses, ponies, peacocks and fancy poultry. We were delighted in the morning on looking from the window of our room to see red squirrels coming to drink from the river.
Our room had a lovely outlook to the rear of the mill, and a very new en-suite. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well indeed.
We took the optional evening meal with the family and were treated to Auvergnat aperos, cuisine, cheeses and wine. A real treat.
After enjoying a breakfast of fresh bread, croissants and ample coffee we were reluctant to leave. I'm sure we will be back.
When we left, we took Pierre's advice and paid a quick visit to the village of Charroux, which is a short distance away. It's a very charming and pretty place, and made us think what a great location Les Valignards would be for exploring what the Allier and wider Auvergne have to offer.
Excellent value and highly recommended.

Old Mill, animals good food and peace

No TV and no DSL but good food, peace and quiet, nice walks and an old mill. The hosts were extremely friendly and prepared us and another guest family a four course evening meal. The room itself was simple with an en suite bathroom (shower) and the breakfast was French (of course...). The hosts spoke better English than my French but it took them a while to get going. Delightful evening and overnight stay. This is not a four star luxury hotel but high quality and clean farmhouse living with only basic comforts, but we had fun. There is a selection of small animals running around outside and also two horses in a field. If we return to the area, we would stop and visit or stay again.

Beautiful hotel

We arrived and was greeted by Dolores and Pierre (and the hens, goose et al!). We were welcomed like family friends and felt relaxed immediately. Our rooms were decorated well and lovely surprise of ultra modern shower en suite. Having booked a meal for the five of us ( two having a birthday that day) we were treated to an Auvergne feast. Kindly Dolores made a cake and this finished off a lovely meal. This is one of the loveliest hotels I have stayed in - it had atmosphere, beautiful surroundings (the sound of water under the hotel so relaxing), friendly hosts as well as various animals. I would definitely stay here again.
