Very special hotel

What can I say about this hotel, well only very very good things.
Parking was a breeze, then met at entrance to explain next steps, up to reception where we were then shown to our room.
The food and service have been outstanding, this is a real gem of a hotel in the Black Forest.
We visited here specifically to spend my birthday in a top class hotel and were not disappointed at all. The hotel made such a fuss of me on my birthday, which was totally unexpected. If you are planning on visiting the Black Forest then don’t hesitate stay in this hotel.

Pure disappointment with a few exceptions.

I am aware that the following complaints are of a high standard, but anyone who boasts on their homepage as a "5-star luxury hotel" should also offer 5-star luxury. Some areas only deserved 3 stars. But from the beginning: when a guest arrives at the reception after a possibly exhausting journey, I expect a friendly smile, a quick key handover, and that the guest is listened to. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met. Personally, in my life, having had many hotel vacations in 3 to 5-star hotels, I have never experienced not receiving the hotel key immediately. One by one: the second sentence after the greeting was: You only booked with breakfast; would you like to reserve a table in the restaurant for this evening to ensure you have a spot? It seemed to me that additional services were initially being sold. Then we were already handed the menus. Unfortunately, the staff did not consider that it might have been the guest's intention to only want breakfast. After 5 minutes of explanation, I had at least 5 pieces of paper in my hand, cards for public transportation (I personally doubt that there is a significant percentage of 5-star guests who use public transport), hotel explanations, among others. But no room keys.
"Would you like a hotel tour?" we were asked. That was our mistake, to agree to it. First, we were led to the hotel-owned shops. It seemed to me that additional services were initially being sold. The room keys were handed to our hotel guide - and yes, they were really keys - 30 years ago, that was certainly the state of the art. Today - I thought - every 3-star hotel has modern plastic cards, which I find much more practical. After the tour, which was of little interest to me, it ended at our room door with the explanation that one must insert the key into the lock, wait 2 seconds, only then could the door be opened. I was already grateful that I did not have to call out "Open Sesame" as well. I cannot understand why such a cumbersome locking system was chosen, especially since this part seemed freshly renovated to me.
The room was adequate - but there were no positive surprises, as one would expect from other 5-star hotels. Now, let's talk about the hotel complex: Gym available, access only possible through a relaxation room. An architectural masterpiece! We booked in the adjacent building because we have dogs. Access to the main building is only possible via a public road. Another architectural masterpiece. Did I mention that the sauna area is also in the main building? Right! That means walking in a bathrobe across a public road or carrying a heavy bag with moving items. Other hotels have underground access or bridge access (just as an idea and suggestion for the hotel owner to truly offer 5-star luxury comfort). Yes, renovations are taking place; a warning was issued on the homepage beforehand. A small point of fairness to the management. However, I have never been in a hotel with only 3 stars where, according to the reception, there is not a single air conditioning unit in the entire hotel. My inquiry by phone to the reception about how to use the air conditioning was answered with: "There is no air conditioning in the entire hotel." Had I known this beforehand, I would not have booked at all. Can you imagine a hotel without air conditioning in over 30-degree weather? I certainly could not until then. I also did not read a word about this on the homepage (perhaps somewhere in the fine print in the imprint, but certainly not as prominently visible as they did with the construction work). Therefore, just the small point of fairness above - but I seriously ask myself: who on earth awards 5 stars to a hotel without air conditioning?
When booking, I took into account that it is located somewhere in the village or further outside, because urban hotels often have parking problems or one has to park further away.
Unfortunately, "easy parking" is also not possible here, as the parking spaces in front of the hotel are obviously undersized in relation to the number of guests. An architectural masterpiece. Given the rural location, I would have expected significantly more parking spaces. This could have been considered during the hotel construction. But it does not have to be. But who could have guessed that guests at a 5-star hotel would arrive by car? They could have also arrived by bus, train, bicycle, or on foot; I did not take that into account and I officially apologize for it here.
But: there is a parking service. The advantage of a 5-star hotel! We gratefully accepted this and answered yes to the question of whether the luggage should be taken to the room, adding "please take everything from the trunk." 5 minutes later, we wanted to drive away with the car that was in the garage. What do we find in the trunk: Right! All of our luggage. One can forget such things - but one does not have to.
I would like to mention it again: it is about a 5-star luxury hotel with 3 Michelin stars. I do not expect luggage service in a 3-star hotel.
The good man then asked us to drive the car with the luggage to the hotel so that he could unload it, and we complied.
A hotel could apologize with a small gesture - but it does not have to. The hotel did not have to.
The hotel explicitly advertises its child-friendliness. However, anyone seeking a particularly quiet spa experience should consider that the indoor pool can be quite lively.
In the indoor pool area, one feels like one is in a public swimming pool - at least in terms of acoustics. An architectural masterpiece. In front of a sauna area, there is an explicit sign: Out of consideration for our international guests, we kindly ask you to enter the area only in swimwear.
I will leave that as it is and leave it to all readers to form their own judgment. Everyone can inform themselves about the customary practices in many German-speaking saunas.
Conclusion: When a guest feels that only one area is seemingly treated with care (culinary - as mentioned - 3 Michelin stars), but the rest is only given "just enough effort to receive 5 stars," then the guest is not likely to feel very positive. And then we, who were at Luisenhöhe two weeks prior, are happy to pay double and enjoy true luxury with exceeded expectations, friendly staff, and a breakfast where everything is promptly refilled and where not three bowls are empty or only filled with leftovers when one has breakfast a bit later.
Addendum: the review was written before the departure breakfast. This breakfast also fit into the overall picture: we ordered 2 omelets, which were not brought even 50 minutes after ordering. To a waiter who asked if everything was alright, we said this, and his nonchalant response: The kitchen already has 40 orders, so it can take a while. As I said: 5-star hotel - unfortunately completely underdimensioned in every aspect: Number of waiters, parking spaces, cooks, etc. There were also not enough places for breakfast to handle the rush. For me, it indicates that the capacities were overall planned too tightly.

Disappointment

It was supposed to be something special for the milestone birthday!
Unfortunately, it started with a very difficult and slow reservation process that upset me greatly.
Nevertheless, I booked, which somehow worked out, but I should not have done it.
It was my husband's heartfelt wish. He is a fan of the KSC VIP lounge, and we both watched the documentary "Burned Stars," which deeply moved us.
We started this journey with high expectations for this, what we thought, unique place.
We had an excellent meal in the Schwarzwaldstube, and the service here was also friendly and competent.
A very nice experience. The treatments at Lina were also great.
The stay at the hotel was below average. The very outdated rooms with musty carpets are definitely not worth the money. Yes, some rooms are currently being renovated, and the price will certainly be adjusted upwards as well.
The breakfast offers no highlights. No freshly squeezed juices, and the egg dishes were only offered to us when we were almost finished. However, the coffee request was mechanically inquired about while we were still looking for a table.
Upon departure, I suggested that perhaps couples seeking peace and lively families should be accommodated in separate areas. The size of the house should allow for this. The lady at the reception did not understand the friendly suggestion at all. She meant something like: that's just how it is when you book half board. It was not about the lively chaos in the restaurant but about the peace in the room. And: we did not have half board! The lady could have seen that on the bill as well. She could not handle constructive criticism at all. Overall, the service was not what we are used to from other 5-star hotels.
It would also be great if there were a children's pool for the many kids. That would also be nicer for the rambunctious children. Adults seeking peace were completely out of place. Conclusion: Disappointing very expensive stay! What a shame!

Lieber Gast,

5 Star goes differently

We had stayed at the hotel because we wanted to eat in the Black Forest parlour. The restaurant was in a class of its own. The hotel, by contrast, was a disappointment - it has more the character of a 4* all-inclusive family hotel in the mountain area. The breakfast buffet we had dispensed with, as below average from the whole ambience. We stayed in the newer modern part of the hotel, which was completed only a few years ago. The room lacks air conditioning, also incomprehensible that no USB charging ports were installed in the new building, which is common today. Glass walls in the bathroom I always find inappropriate - not only is the private sphere disturbed, it is also always the whole room illuminated when one person is still sleeping and the other is already in the bathroom. Small TV compared to room size. There are other points to mention, but the shortcoming is clearly in the details. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating throughout, which is a plus.

Schwarzwaldstube is amazing - Hotel is not living up to expectation

Our stay at Traube Tonbach was a mix of extraordinary highlights and unexpected disappointments.
The Schwarzwaldstube was truly exceptional. The kitchen delivered an outstanding performance with remarkable precision and creativity, making every course memorable. The sommelier was equally impressive — knowledgeable, intuitive, and easily among the best we’ve encountered. This part of the experience is world‑class and absolutely lives up to its reputation.
Unfortunately, the rest of the hotel did not reach the same standard. The rooms, spa, the regular restaurant, and the breakfast offering felt more in line with a 4‑star property, far from the luxury level one would expect at this price point. The staff often came across as disengaged, which further diminished the overall experience.
The breakfast was particularly underwhelming: a small buffet, with some items already gone if you arrived later in the morning. The breakfast room itself had the atmosphere of a hostel rather than a luxury hotel.
The spa situation was also inconvenient. To use the pool and fitness facilities, you had to cross the street to another building — not ideal, especially in winter.

Lieber Gast,
