Be careful! Not trustworthy!
I travel a lot on business and stay in hotels about 100 nights a year. This also applies in November 2024. So I checked in here on a Tuesday trip on 08.11.24 at short notice, I wanted to stay two nights. When I arrived it was revealed to me that the hotel was probably hacked and therefore no payment by credit card was possible. Good faith as I was I then paid with my private debit card. In the room I then found that no internet was available. Since I absolutely depend on it and also work for systemically important infrastructure, I went to the reception and asked about the status of the situation. Unfortunately, I could not be told if and when the internet would work again, which is why I then checked out the hotel again. In the room I was about 5 minutes - just until I realized that there was no internet available, touched or used I had nothing.
When checking out, the staff member at the counter / reception then told me he could not refund the money now (as I had paid with my private debit card), but the owner would transfer it back to me - the invoice was copied. Then I booked another hotel and drove there.
The stagecoach employee then called me again and told me that an IT professional would go and try to get the internet up and running. Since it was still not clear if and when the Internet would work again (I don't want to talk about security here), I said that this was too uncertain for me and we said goodbye.
After still not receiving my refund promised by the receptionist by January, I asked again by email. I was then informed, with an email full of exclamation points in a very specific tone, by the owner, Mrs Paprosch, that I had not accepted any device of the "IT expert". He would have come "especially because of me", but I would have "refused" the device he would have brought for me and therefore she will not refund me my money.
Personally, I have to confess that I would assume that in the event of a hack of the IT infrastructure, the IT expert comes not because of me, but because of the hacking problem. I wasn't told anything about a special "device" by phone either, and certainly not that I wouldn't get my money back if I didn't come back.
I replied that I was very sorry for what happened to her and her hotel here. I had paid in good faith with my private debit card so as not to cause any trouble for the hotel. Besides, a hotel should also have insurance that covers such cases, but I remain here on my private money that I could have used for my family. Since then, no response, any feedback or anything like that.
My conclusion from this story:
- We have a framework contract customer in Cottbus. The hotel could have won a loyal customer with me. I'm going to take this hotel a long way in the future.
- Had I said that I can only pay by credit card, I would not have been stuck on private 180,- €.
- Never pay with the private debit card on a trust basis in a hotel you don't know (or whose owner you don't know).
- I have been travelling through a wide variety of hotels worldwide for over 15 years. I have NEVER experienced anything like this in all this time.
- This house, or Mrs Paprosch herself, must not be trusted at all. In any case, she does not abide by agreements with HER employees.
- Read reviews before, then I wouldn't have considered the hotel at all. My case was predictable.
