Successful stay at the Badhotel Sternhagen
We had an all-around successful stay at the Badhotel Sternhagen and felt very comfortable from the first to the last minute.
Our room was very comfortable, tastefully furnished, and left nothing to be desired. Particularly noteworthy is the hotel's excellent location – right on the dike, directly on the beach, and by the unique Wadden Sea. The perfect starting point for relaxed walks, extensive mudflat hikes, and restful days by the North Sea.
A big compliment goes to the entire team, which made our stay something special with its friendliness and professionalism. We would especially like to thank Ms. Weiß-Freitag at the reception. With her warm, helpful, and attentive manner, she ensured at all times that we felt in the best of hands.
Another special thanks goes to Mr. Lutze, the deputy hotel manager. He took personal time for us and took care of our concerns with great dedication. This personal appreciation and presence are by no means a matter of course and additionally enriched our stay.
The restaurant also impressed us in every respect. Ms. Bartz and Mr. Unterlauf ensured with excellent service that no wish remained unfulfilled. In particular, the pleasant, personable, and attentive manner of Mr. Unterlauf has left a lasting impression on us and made our restaurant visits a real pleasure.
We would also like to pay a special compliment to the trainees. They left an excellent impression and performed their tasks with great dedication, friendliness, and professionalism. We would especially like to highlight Mr. Xu, who impressed us particularly with his attentive and courteous manner.
Many thanks to the entire team at the Badhotel Sternhagen for this wonderful stay. You can feel that hospitality is lived here and that every single person contributes to providing the guests with an unforgettable time. We would love to come back and can recommend the hotel without reservation.

Excellent patisserie
For our wedding party, the confectionery equipped the coffee table (outside the house), selection and delivery went smoothly, and our guests were spoiled with excellent fig pastries. Especially recommended are the mocha and champagne cakes.

The positive, and the negative in the Badhotel Sternhagen
Were there from 01 November 2025 for 6 nights in a corner suite. In general, the hotel is professionally run, and all staff are very friendly and accommodating (and even the young trainees have made a sincere effort to do everything perfectly under guidance). Management greeted us very kindly personally, and a bottle of sparkling wine was in our room for my birthday.
To the suite:
Actually little to complain about, nicely furnished with beautiful views of the North Sea, however, we had in this price range (600 euros +/night) already better suites (with fireplace or own sauna included), the shortcoming are the pillows, a narrow with undersized and an oversized (very high) pillow are offered, neither of which offer acceptable sleeping comfort. Here you should stop by Kempinski, Sofitel or Shangri La for pillow comfort. These weren't five-star superiors.
Restaurant:
We tried to book the gourmet Michelin restaurant for an evening, unfortunately everything is booked up. So we had dinner every night in the "normal" restaurant. The quality of the food and the service and the wine offer are consistently of high quality, although if there are large numbers of guests there are sometimes waiting times. Roast venison, steak and lamb were excellent, half the duck I had ordered once, but came flabby with flabby (not crispy) skin, so the duck is not recommended. There was no apology from the cook, only one from the waiter.
Breakfast buffet is fine so far (especially the fish salads and the matjes and the fresh mett are good), whereby the meat salad, the egg salad and the cheese salad are probably more a matter of taste (we had them better for our taste).
But now to the real problem:
The first 3 or 4 nights were a family with four adults and a baby (several weeks old) at the hotel, the appearance of the troupe was strongly reminiscent of a commune of hippies. The baby was then dragged along everywhere, to the breakfast buffet, to dinner in the restaurant, and even to the wellness/sauna area, whereby the baby then constantly reached out in a loudness, muttered and constantly made some noises, whereby the rest of the troupe then tried to calm the baby with "DiDiDiDi" and "DuDuDuDu" and "DaDaDa" etc., which was extremely annoying especially in the wellness area (where the baby was then also put in all the pools). Unfortunately, this has made any rest impossible, especially since the relaxation area there is not completely sealed off from the swimming pool.
We experienced the same problem a second time with a family with 2 boys (so 10 and 8 years old), who had to report something constantly and nonstop in a permanent loudness, and in the wellness area noised, ran around, jumped around, threw balls etc. pp. They were then also taken to the bar area in the evening and then always ran around between the bar and the restaurant to disturb the remaining guests in the restaurant.
So, the hotel brochure says, wellness area not for guests UNDER 16, why isn't that implemented for the well-being of all guests ? Why isn't the restaurant telling you to talk at a set and appropriate volume?
Badhotel Sternhagen has in my opinion the best potential as ADDULTS ONLY Hotel (comparable to the 5*-Strandhotel Dunenmeer Dierhagen), where we felt completely comfortable and recovered this summer.
We think that the management can significantly improve the quality of recreation at the Badhotel and would be happy if something happens in this area.

A gem on the North Sea.
They actually still exist when you cross the world. These hostels you enter and arrive at the same time and can take a deep breath. Where everything seems different. Such a feeling comes over when you check into this well-kept house on the German North Sea coast. For decades, the guest has simply been offered everything here and at the highest level. Starting from the unique beachfront location , continuing to the rooms and suites to the fantastic spa and beauty area. When Jürgen Sternhagen, a former banker and ingenious hotelier, decided not only to build a hotel but also to build and operate his hotel, he had only one goal in mind: to offer the best to the guest. Together with his wife Helga, the two formed a congenial duo. This was particularly evident in the selection of their staff. Many of them have been working here for years, much to the delight of the guests. Highly motivated, the serviceable spirits provide their tasks. And so that the physical well-being is not neglected, two restaurants were created. The Sterneck, awarded Michelin Stern for decades and the Schaarhörn , also highly praised by many restaurant guides. All in all a perfect house. Hanseatic restrained, but always there when she is needed, Susan Cantauw runs the house. True to Jürgen Sternhagen's credo: the best for the guest. If you want to escape the ills of the world for some time, this culinary and hospitable island is recommended.
