Fine for 1 night and you don't want to spend too much on it
It's a great hotel if you don't care what it looks like or what the staff is like, because it's very dated (bathroom with old bath and hand shower instead of walk-in shower or something, rust on all the stainless steel) (bedroom with very old TV set, old clothes and carpet) but really very clean, so in terms of hygiene it scores high!
The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the room is very clean. It leaves something to be desired, let's just say. We arrived for 1 night with 1 small dog, for which we had to pay €19,-- on the spot; quite pricey. We did not take advantage of breakfast there because we found €12.50/p best at the price for us, who are not really good eaters in the morning. Instead, around 9:00 am just outside the hotel at a bakery, we each went for a delicious fresh sandwich with a cup of tea for €13.50: count out your winnings and you are sure it is fresh
Also not insignificant to mention: the hotel does not have private parking. There are plenty of opportunities to park nearby, we were in a parking garage just about next to the hotel, for €14,- for +-16 hours.
The entrance to the hotel is a serious search, you might want to keep the address of a clothing store in the same building: 'AppelrathCüpper', Kampstrasse, because it is clearly marked on the building. If you go in there (walks into a hall with 2 elevators), you will also see in white letters on the door Sunday hotel. You will then have to enter the elevator to the reception on the 3rd floor.
We would choose another hotel next time, which should not be difficult because there are 60 (!) hotels in Dortmund. And everywhere they are dog friendly, really super

central simple Mercure hotel in Dortmund
The hotel is very centrally located – about five minutes from the main train station or directly at the Kampstraße underground station. It is located on the upper floors of a building, the reception is on the second floor. It is a rather simple and smaller Mercure hotel; by my count it has less than 60 rooms.
My room was modern and clean, so I can't understand the criticism of other guests. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Somewhat impractical, however, was the limited number of outlets (one at the desk, one in the vestibule).
Breakfast is rather simple by Mercure standards; hot food such as scrambled eggs, sausages or meatballs are not offered. There is also no bar, gym or sauna – presumably the hotel is too small for this.
However, if you can do without such additional services and a particularly extensive breakfast, you will find a centrally located hotel here, which is ideal for train passengers and public transport users.

I want to share my extremely disappointing experience at the Mercure Hotel in Dortmund. I have rarely faced such an unpleasant and unprofessional welcome.
As soon as I arrived, the tone was set: no hello, no smile, no kind look. The reception staff seemed deeply annoyed by the mere presence of guests. It really feels like you’re disturbing, like doing your job is an insurmountable effort. However, an establishment in this category should understand that the welcome is the first impression, and that it conditions the whole stay.
The lack of politeness is glaring: no courtesy formula, no clear explanation, not even a “goodbye” when leaving the premises. The bare minimum is not even guaranteed. The staff seems to want to ship customers as quickly as possible... or to make them wait voluntarily. On several occasions, we had to wait a long time while the receptionist seemed to take all her time to “do her books”, manipulate papers or type on her computer without any explanation. No words to inform us of the reason for the wait, no gesture to show that we were taken into consideration.
Most shocking is the feeling that some information is distorted or presented in a confusing way, as if anything were being said simply to simplify the task or avoid having to deal with the situation properly. This lack of transparency and professionalism is particularly frustrating.
We felt we were being left out of pure ill will, as if we were being “rotted” at the reception for no good reason. This is a profound disrespect to customers who pay for a service and expect, at a minimum, to be treated with courtesy.
A Mercure hotel is supposed to represent a certain standard of quality. Unfortunately, the attitude of the reception staff in Dortmund does not reflect this level of demand. This is not just a forgetfulness or a bad day, but a repeated and obviously assumed behavior.
I strongly advise against this establishment until a real effort is made on the quality of the reception and the training of the staff. A smile, a hello, a modicum of respect cost nothing — and yet, here, it seems to be asking too much.

Disappointment slightly better f
As in France, the Mercurys are getting older: this mark drops, however the room was poorly soundproofed, and poorly cleaned.
