We stayed for 2 nights, nice clean hotel, spacious room. Very hot in the room but large free standing fan supplied which was very useful.
Staff all very helpful and friendly.
Breakfast well presented and variety of options for everyone.
We ate in the restaurant - lovely food, great service.
Local tram ride to Basel very easy to negotiate.
Enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.

Austere comfort

If you decide to walk from a tram station there, you wouldn’t be at fault to think that there is no way there can be a hotel in that area. It is not just giving you a sketchy feeling but more of a feeling of industrial area filled with car parks and car washes. And it is ugly.
But there it is, hotel Fritz, on a quiet street. Run by a nice couple (?) it is a combo of 3 buildings . We stayed in a violet one and it is apartment set up. Mine was a loft, others had even a kitchenette. Super spacious, with large bathroom, bedroom and living room area and a balcony on higher floor. Furniture is modern sparse. Bed is comfy but initially looks unmade due to austere bedding. Blanket is too small for the bed, as well as pillows. There are no toiletries in otherwise well designed bathroom. So bring your own lotion and a conditioner. Rooms don’t get cleaned , they say, but they do. Towels are changed per request only. Everyone is SPOTLESS clean. No AC so there is a fan but I was there during the heat wave so was a bit challenging.
Breakfast is anything you need! Coffee is good, salmon is delicious, fruit etc. my colleagues said dinner was good too.
You get one bottle of water first night but drink tap, it is fine.
Take a walk to the 3 countries bridge and walk it, as France part is much more upscale and pleasant. 5 min to cross to Switzerland and about 20-25 min on tram to center of Basel and and Basel SBB.

A fabulous hotel

Fabulous hotel. We had an apartment, which was huge, with lots of space for the three of us. It was more modern than the images we had seen online, as well as being clean and well furnished and a nice balcony too. Our hosts were really friendly & accomodating, helping us with late check-ins and taxis when we needed them. The breakfasts were great with plenty of choice, including continental or cooked, (scrambled eggs & bacon). We dined in the restaurant on a couple of evenings and the food & service was superb! Really handy location to the tram stop if you're heading to Basel, approx a 10 minute walk. Although the surrounding area isnt particularly scenic, as its situated on a industrial estate, you do tend to forget about that once you are inside the hotel itself. Thank you for a lovely stay.
